Matches - REAL MATCHES.
That's what we use. The sulfur neutralizes the smell. EVERY TIME.
Okay....gross question, but I know there are some products out there that are supposed to neutralize "poop" smells. I wondered if they really work. We'll be going on vacation with only one shared bathroom. Something like this might come in handy.
I used to see ads for something you put a few drops in the toilet before you go. I don't want sprays...too many allergies and sensitivities for that.

i don't think there's anything gross about this question. SH*T happens! :)
Matches work in our house. I've got 4 boys and 3 dogs. MATCHES!
You could burn a candle - it does help.
You could also run the bathroom fan a lot - that's part of what it's for.
If it has a window - open it.
You could also pour some baking soda into the toilet - not sure if it would help or not but it's cheap and worth a try.
You could put everyone on activated charcoal capsules - it takes the stink out of farts and presumably poop as well.
Additional:
I looked up the Poo Pourri.
It's a scented oil you put a few drops into your toilet - the oil slick floats on the water surface and keeps the smell from leaving the water.
I guess it's ok if you don't mind a slightly oily toilet.
But really - any oil should work the same way.
Try a few drops of olive oil if you don't want anything scented.
My best friend had gastric bypass surgery several years ago. One of the side effects is VERY foul odor when defecating. She uses a product called "poo pourri" and it works way better than a match or candle or spray (and yes I know because I've traveled with her.) You can google it, it's pretty popular, and yes, it's drops.
I’ve used matches and agree with wild woman. The problem is my husband can’t stand the sulphuric smell of matches. I use Lysol sometimes but prefer matches. You might try before you leave and see if your family tolerates it.
Another thing I use when traveling is Thieves oil spray. It comes in a pump and is fantastic for neutralizing smells. Once when the trash wasn’t taken out before we left on a business trip we came home to a stout smelling kitchen. I used thieves and it worked very well. And my son has never failed to make sure the trash is out before leaving again. 😉
strike a match and blow it out. Those fragrance products smell gross and fake to me and give me a headache.
We use the stuff that mamazita mentions, and it works really well. Matches also work, but I'm not going to let my 6 year old light one.
