Do I Give a Gift?? a Bonus??

My nanny has been with us for a year. She's great and we love her. Do I give her a gift or a bonus? If so, what kind of gift or how much of a bonus? I want her to know how much we appreciate her. I do tell her very often how we would fall apart without her. Thanks in advance.

What can I do next?

I definitely think a raise is in order. A bonus is nice, but it's a one-time thing. A raise is permanent and shows your appreciation in an on-going way. Personally, I applaud the fact that you acknowledge the positive effect your nanny is having on your family. Too often, childcare providers are taken for granted, taken advantage of, and not compensated fairly. (I should know. I watch a 2 year old in my home while my 3 kids are at school. She loves being here, and my family loves her, too, but if her parents appreciate it, I wouldn't know...no raises or bonuses have ever come my way!)

I think it's a great idea to give her a bonus. Being a nanny is hard work and it's always nice to feel appreciated! If you like her--keep her happy. It doesn't have to be huge, but enough to make her feel special. Another idea is to also take her out to dinner to celebrate. I do home daycare and 1 family took me out to celebrate our 6 months! It was nice to feel appreciated!

More than anything else, a raise is probably in order. A bonus is good for showing your appreciation, but a raise is ongoing and shows that you understand that by staying with you, she's getting better and better at her job and increasing in value to you. I did like the idea of dinner...maybe you and the kids could throw her a party and give her a present like gift certificates for dinner or movies?

yes!! definitely!! i think a bonus is a great way to show how much you appreciate her, maybe take her out to dinner with the family and suprise her with a little gift or bonus!!! depending on what she likes, you could do anything from a cash bonus (always good! especially if she needs cash), or a spa certificate, something like that!

A gift or a bonus would be really nice, maybe something from the kids. A raise would be appropriate, too. At any other job you would get a yearly review and then a raise based on the review.

As long as you are giving her a bonus at the holidays of at least a week's pay, I would say a gift/dinner and a raise would be perfect. If you haven't given her an appropriate amount at the holidays, I'm sure a bonus at this time would be appreciated.
