Hello,

We will be saying goodbye to our much loved nanny of two years. She has been absolutely fabulous, so we would like to give her parting gift that lets her know she was highly appreciated. Any suggestions? We were considering a personal gift and a cash gift, but would love some feedback as to what others have done. We've been toying with a weeks to two weeks pay. Any suggestions are much appreciated

What can I do next?

Marie's suggestion was fantastic! I haven't been a Nanny but I think a scrapbook/ photo albulm of the past two years would be a nice send-off. Another nice touch could be to send the Nanny and your daughter to have professional pictures taken. Pictures mean so much and I am a true advocate of using them to commemorate things. In addition, you can use pictures to make gifts. Walgreens.com is where I have a lot of my picture gifts made. They can do anything from coasters to afghans- you might consider this too!

Good luck. I would be curious to hear what you end up doing. Sorry to hear that you are losing your much-loved Nanny. Sounds like you could use her again with a baby on the way.

Hi! This is a super idea.. my two best girlfriends, have had several nannies and a couple ..many years in a row. What i have heard that the two weeks pay is totally perfect.. and then maybe something personal..necklace, locket.. charm.. remembering the family.. nice photo frame of her the your daughter /or entire family.
(my friend, gave their nanny who is leaving in Dec.. a laptop..because she is also completing school...) just an idea..good luck

I was a nanny for a couple years. The sentimental parting gift they gave to me from the kids was a cookie jar with their handprints, names and date on it, and polka dots on the top with their finger prints. It's really sweet and sits on my counter to remember them by. Best wishes to you all. :)

Hi A.,
I have been a professional Nanny for over 17 years and I would always receive 1-2 weeks bonus pay (depending on what the family could afford.) I would definitely do something more personal as well. Some of the best gifts are the ones where the child is involvedi.e. handprints or their own design on plates, serving dishes, t-shirts, photo frames. You could even have your daughter paint a picture and put her handprints in it and have it framed. You should have the best inside information as to what your nanny would prefer along the personal gift line. And I also agree that keeping in touch with recent photos and cards with pictures drawn by your daughter is one of the best ways to continue to express how much she has meant to you and your family.
Best Wishes for your expanding family!

I was a nanny for 12 years for several different families. The best gift I have received from a family is continual invitations to birthday parties, email, and school pictures to watch my "babies" grow. My parting gift from them was a two-stone aquamarine gold ring and a week's pay. The birthstones of the twin girls that I cared for and loved for 4 years. As a matter of fact I just recently visited them, the girls are now 12 years old. They played with MY baby (2.5) and we stayed until almost midnight catching up because their dads were out of town. GIRLS NIGHT!

Warm regards,
M.

The last nanny we had (she was just here for the summer and had to go back to college) we gave an ipod. Our longer term nanny that we previously had we gave her a combination of cash and a gift certificate to a store I know she loved to shop at. The reason we did the combo was so I knew she would buy some fun stuff for herself instead of using all of it to pay bills or something. Something personal is always nice, it shows you took the time to get something you knew she'd like.

ps- is your nanny leaving because you don't need her anymore, or because she doesn't want to be a nanny anymore. Just asking because we are looking for a nanny. Let me know if she is looking for another position. ____@____.com
thanks!
