Hello Moms! I am in the first trimester of my second pregnancy. So far it is absolutely nothing like the first. I am so incredibly dizzy it is hard for me to even turn my head. Has anyone experienced this as well, and if so, do you have any remedies that might be helpful until I can see my OBGYN? (Sidenote: I did phone the OB and they didn't seem to think the dizziness was worth seeing me over.)

Thank you in advance!

Hi D., my name is Dr. Rick Semlow. I am a chiropractor. I have had excellent results in helping my patients that have had dizziness (vertigo). My office is located in Troy. Give my office a call ###-###-#### if you would like a consultation.

I was dizzy in the 1st trimester with all five of my normal pregnancies (not with my miscarraige, oddly enough). It was part of the "morning" sickness nausea, I think. It got better with a few more weeks. No fun, but for me, and perhaps you, very normal.

I experienced dizziness throughout my 3rd trimester. It felt like I was rocking on a boat. The source of my dizziness was low blood pressure - mid 40's over mid 60's. Even though I was already drinking 80 oz of water a day (and no caffeine), my dr told me to drink more. I'm telling you I don't know how I got a paycheck since I was in the restroom all day! I purchased a self blood pressure machine - the kind that goes on your wrist. I took my blood pressure 2-3 times a day. Luckily it never dipped as low as it was the first time I checked.

Go to a local drug store and check your blood pressure. Having results - if this is your case - will assist your OB in assisting you with dealing with your dizziness. I took mine before I called my dr. I searched on dizziness and one of the results said low blood pressure. If the dizziness doesn't go away with any of the suggestions you received, press your OB to see you. Good luck.

It sounds like a iner ear inbalance . When we are pregnant we like to think and so do doctors that every thing has to do with the baby but your iner ear controls your balance and when this is of it can make you feal dizzy

Have you ever had problems with low blood sugar or seizures? Dizziness is common for persons with low blood sugar. If it came on during pregnancy, small things you can do is to have some snacks on you. Orange juice, peanut butter crackers, and cheese & crackers are great. Also, even if you have not had a seizure, they can come on during pregnancy. I can tell you more about it if you want.

I had this problem. My blood pressure is normally low and my iron was low. I used to stand up and then fall right back down. Have both checked at your next check up.

Dizziness in pregnancy is a common response to the body's process of increasing your blood volume to support your baby in utero. Sometimes, it takes the body a little time to "catch up" while this is happening. In the mean time, you can help increase your blood volume by drinking lots of water (8-10 glasses/day and no matter what they say, Crystal Light and soda pop doesn't count!) and making sure you are getting a proper amount of electrolytes. (I use 1tsp Tracelyte 3X's day in water seperate from meals see: http://www.naturespathsupplements.com/shopsite_sc/store/h... if you're interested, you can get it cheaper at: http://www.longlifecatalogs.com/SHOP/STORE/viewItem.asp?i... which is where I order it from myself.) Also make sure you aren't getting too much caffeine. If you do drink caffeine, now is a good time to wean yourself **slowly**. Try using green tea (you can make it cold for these warmer summer months just like ice tea) and it's a great way to get off pop or coffee without hitting those deep lows. You can drink 4 or 5 of these a day in good health. Just remember that you still need to drink some water too! You don't want to deydrate your baby! One of the main causes of premature labor is deydration and can be solved and prevented by getting enough fluids! Blessings on your little one and may you have a blessed pregnancy too!

My poor sister-in-law just went through this. She is now 7 months pregnant and the dizzy spells have passed. She was experiencing it every day for a few months, she almost passed out at Wal-Mart even! They did a couple tests on her but nothing showed up, they said it was most likely from her pregnancy. By about 5 months her dizzy spells were gone. Hopefully that's all it is with you, too. Sorry I'm not much help, but I just wanted to let you know you're not alone!

That is odd that your doctor won't see you over this. I think you might need to get a second opinion! I just wanted to add that the only time I got dizzy was due to dehydration so I was wondering if you're getting enough fluids. Good luck! I hope you get some answers!!

yes, I have a 20 month old and am in my 12 week of pregnancy, sometimes my husband is affraid of me passing out when he is not here (which is most of the day). I haven't found any cures, but get up slow, I know this is pointless to say with a two year old, but try to take it easier then usuall, and when walking where stair are involved be sure to have a railing. Also, mine is worse when my allergies are acting up because of that whole inner ear nose congestion. So make sure it's not somthing simple like that. There are many decongestants that are safe for baby.

Hello D., With each of my pregnancies I had very low blood pressure, which caused me to be dizzy also. The doc wasn't too conserned about my over all health due to it. Just had to be careful. Talk to your OBGYN right away to make sure that this is not something more serious. Good luck.

Yes, I usually get dizzy when I am pregnant. I am not sure how to help it except do not get up too quickly and make sure you eat snacks throughout the day. Do not overdo anything and get plenty of rest.

I had the same thing with number two, and the doc didn't care to see me either. They just told me to eat more protein, and that seemed to fix the problem in a couple days (either that, or it just wore off).

Maybe it's not pregnancy at all. Could be an inner ear problem. Or, have you had a cold or allergy recently? The ears, nose, and throat are all connected. Just as an example, after I'd had a c-section with my youngest, I had dizziness too. And what I went through! A 24 hour heart monitor strapped to me, a hearing exam (that at least gave me some decent feedback), but eventually I had a sinus infection. Bingo; it told me a whole lot.

So take it into consideration.

I also had dizziness and the only thing they suggested was that my sugars would drop too suddenly. It was recommended that I snack a lot--not junk, but even some milk, juice, fruit: complex carbs and protein. Did it help? Well ... I can't remember exactly. Maybe some? But that's all they suggested.

Does high blood pressure run in your family?? Pregnancy induced hypertension?? Also, make sure you are really hydrating yourself. Keep up on your water intake.

Hope everything works out well.

Get a new OB gyn. I think that even without being pregnant my doctor would want to see me for dizziness. It could be vertigo, and ear infection, etc. How can you drive etc if you are dizzy?

Every pregnancy is different. When I was pregnant for the second time, I was terribly dizzy and sick all the time. Unfortunately it might just be that lovely morning sickness. Hang in there, it'll pass soon!

as you already know, during pregnancy the volume of blood in you doubles... You probibly did have some dizziness during your first pregnancy, but as with all things, you notice things more the more you do it... So your body has picked this symptom to magnify right now.
Def. get the OB to see you, but don't really worry about it. Keep a "log" for yourself of times that it seems worse and times it seems better. Maybe it gets worse as the day goes on and taking a nap may help... Or eating some food. my mom had vertigo with her 5th pregnancy because of a pinched nerve in her neck... Perhaps a chiropractic visit could help?
Congrats and good luck!!

I'd say - get out of bed slowly, move your head slowly and be very gentle when you have to change elevation. You can try focusing on an object until things feel more normal. If you're allowed to use an antihistimine like sudafed, that may help, but obviously during pregnancy (especially 1st tri.), you don't want to take anything you're not sure is OK. Hopefully this will go away. The humidity right now may be some of the problem.

D.,
I had the same problem during my 1st trimester of my current pregnancy. My advise...drink a lot of water and take an approved anti-histamine(allergy pill). My doctors approved Claritin D for me because I have bad allergies. Change your positions slowly and wait this out it will eventually go away. Hope this helps. J.
