Three times this year I woke up dizzy and remain dizzy for weeks each time. The doctors I've been too said I'm perfectly healthy. The first time I was dizzy I laid in bed dizzy for 2 days with my mother waiting on me hand and and foot. When I got out of bed I still was spinning while taking care of my three kids and everything. I'm normaly healthy and don't understand what's going on.

I had a friend who experienced something similar...the docs were mystified. Then her husband, after a great deal of internet searching, found a test to determine if she had a particular illness by putting her on a bed and tilting her in different direcions. She passed out immediately when her head was tilted lower than her body--and that was good news! It revealed her condition, but the name of it has slipped my mind. Her care involved vigilant hydration and some other things.

Sounds like you may have vertigo. My sister had the same problem and that is what she was diagnosed with.

I suffered from the same thing earlier thus year, although not to the same extreme. However, like you I am healthy and could not figure out what was going on. The Bible mentions a "spirit of dizziness". I don't know what your faith background is, but upon reading that there is a spirit of dizziness I began to bind it in Jesus' name. Outloud upon each episode, I would say "in the name of Jesus this spirit of dizziness must go". Not long after claiming my authority in Jesus' name, the dizziness disappeared and has not returned.
I found the dizziness to be a distraction and a hindrance to loving my family the way that we are called to. My guess is that you are a fantastic mother, pursuing the right ways for your children and thus dizziness has stepped in to distract you from that. Don't let it hinder you any longer but come against it with the strong name of Jesus. Sometimes doctors just don't know- but God does.

I too had the same issue a few months ago. My doctor knew right away what it was. She called it Benign paroxysmal position vertigo. It is nothing to be concerned about. She did give me some exercises to do but basically continue to stay in the position making you dizzy (even if you throw up). It will work its way back out. She said that they do not know what causes it but it is an imbalance in the fluid in the middle ear. Good luck. I hope this has helped.

Hi C.,
Sorry that is happening to you. Could it be Vertigo? Never heard of Vertigo until my mother in law had it about a month ago. Check into it. Take care.

Hi, C.. Just thinking about what you are going through makes me dizzy. I suffer from vertigo and I don't wish this feeling on anyone. I am very sensitive to motion, and like you, there have been times I wake up in the middle of the night and the room is spinning or I just get out of bed and I am dizzy. Since I am so sensitive to motion, I spend the next several hours throwing up. I went to a neurologist to get checked out, and even had an MRI done. And, it's basically just benign positional veritgo. Get checked out to make sure it isn't an ear infection or anemia. This spinning sensation is caused by the cystals in your ear don't move when you move. I even went to physical therapy to see if they can help. My therapist thought mine was more of a result of my neck and gave me neck exercises to do. What helps tremendously is having meclizine or dramamine on hand at all times!! If you start to feel a little off, take a 1/4 of a pill. This helps balance you out without getting so sleepy. You can always take a little more until you're at ease. When mine gets really bad, I have to sit up and not move for over an hour before it helps. My neurologist also gave me another pill that works great...it's a very low dose of clonazepam and a suppository to keep from throwing up. (I've only had to use that once since getting it).Best of luck to you and I pray this goes away for you!!!

How much water are you drinking? Are you eating properly? Sometimes dehydration and skipping meals can bring on dizziness. Or, are you exhausted with the three children? If you can't rule out some of the typical problems--ear infection, dehydration, anemia, fatigue, malnutrition--then, I'd continue calling my doctor and getting this on his/her radar as chronic.

What about sinusitis? I've suffered from it, and it's kept me in bed for a week.

Do you feel pain on your face? cheekbones? around the eyes? Do you have a headache or feel one coming on when you get dizzy?

Antibiotics will work, but they're not a cure. You may need surgery to cure it. Temporary relief can be obtained using a neti pot. http://www.webmd.com/allergies/sinus-pain-pressure-9/neti...

I rely heavily on mine.

Not that I'm a doctor and this could be way off base, but for what it's worth, not so long ago I experienced the dizziness with hearing loss & ringing in my ear. At first they thought it was allergies (which may have played a part) but then I went to a ENT specialist who has diagnosed a condition called Meniere's Disease which has to do with an imbalance in your inner ear. Best advice is track other symptoms, things you eat and check with an ENT specialist just to be safe. Good luck and all the best.

I used to get that a lot when younger, and would faint...so I got tested for Anemia, but I didn't have it....it went away after awhile, but recently came back since I got pregnant...my blood pressure is on the low side of normal, and the nurse suggested I may be dehydrated, which can cause light-headedness. I have been drinking more and seems to be working, but she is testing my glucose levels just to be sure I don't have gestational diabetes...something you may also want to test for - diabetes....but drinking more may be an easy solution....good luck!!

I am no doctor and no expert but I have some ideas. First off did the doctor consider Vertigo? I do not know much about it but I think its a middle ear thing that causes the dizziness you describe. People I have met who have had it describe symptoms much lilke yours. You may also have had a migraine? I get migraines and sometimes I have a headache, sometimes I don't ever have a headache. I do get dizzy and I also have vision problems during a migraine. Sometimes my only symptom is blindness in one eye or dizziness. Have you had your eyes checked? Also an ear nose and throat doctor should look at you to check your ears and sinus cavities. If I where you, and the doctor could find nothing wrong, I would ask for a brain scan as well. Hope you can figure it out! Good luck and keep me posted!

Hi

My mom had the same thing a few times and she had vertigo , it can start out of nowhere and last a day or a week , and the dizzyness can vary. She was really unwell the last time she had it and could not get out of bed and was so dizzy she felt nauseus. I would go back to the Dr and tell him/her this is what you think it is and he should give you some medication for it.

I hope you feel better soon

Hi there, I had the dizziness as well and it took months to feel better. I went to my ENT doctor and they did a test and dx me with IPV- irr....positional vertigo. I had several exercises to do that was very helpful to put the crystals back in alignment. I also went to my chiropractor and he did several treatments. It's miserable for sure..Hope this helps!

From a friend who dealt with a lot of dizziness:

Dizziness can be caused by many things. If you’ve had it three times in a year, I’d push a little more with the doctors. I had “episodic vertigo” for years. I was given Meclizine (antihistamine) for the dizziness, and the medicine did help shorten the vertigo for a while. We initially thought it was related to sinus infections as I do suffer from allergies. It eventually got to the point that the vertigo was almost constant. I started with Ear/Nose/Throat (ENT) doctors to rule out sinus and inner ear problems. I went to neurologists after that. It was actually my Physical Therapist that found the problem - my Sternocleidomastoid muscles were shortened and extremely painful (probably caused from a whiplash injury years ago). We have been working on them for months, and I am so much better. I’ve put down my walking stick and am living a much more normal life. I still have to be very careful about my salt and caffeine intake, they definitely contribute to the problem.

Good luck!

Odd I know, but my Mom gets swimmer's ear (something about the shapee/size of her ear structure), and it causes vertigo symptoms. Any chance that your symptoms are tied ot the pool?

If you are are uncomfortable with what doctors have told you (they should have some explanation), then go to one more. Have you seen a specialist, a neurologist, I guess? Definately don't just rely on your primary care physician.

It defiantly sounds like some kind of inner/middle ear problem. Have you been on any amusement park rides lately? I read somewhere that as we age, some people just can't take the spinning/upside down (roller coaster, tea cups, scrambler, etc) type rides anymore and the dizziness can last for days (sometimes weeks). It's a case where the dizziness is not infection related. I'd have it checked out by an ENT (ear, nose, throat Dr). I'd want to know what's going on so I could try to do something to avoid it happening again.

C.:

It's possible you have vestibular neuritis. Go to an ENT (Ear Nose Throat) dr. VN is a a viral infection of the inner ear. It can also be from the hairs within your ear getting messed up.

You can take dramamine or your ENT might prescribe Meclizine (mehc-lie-zeen).

When you get dizzy. SIT UP. focus on one thing - this is what I do and it helps. When I lay down it makes it even worse.

Take care! I understand your pain.

Best regards,

Cheryl

Hi Connie, this is funny that you sent this out today. Yesterday I was reading in the July edition of O magazine this very issue. It could be any number of things. Vertigo, fluid buildup in the inner ear or 2 other issues. My guess is inner ear. I recommend that you see and Ear nose and throat doctor who would be better able to help you. Also check out that issue of O you should be able to get it at the library. It is page 85 and 86. Hope you are able to find out what it is and get some relief.

When I had an inner ear infection I had the same symptoms as you. I have several friend who have had inner ear infections and it is awful. You can line the waste paper bin with my suggestion, but has it occurred to get a second opinion?
I couldn't actually know if it is an inner ear infection of course, but it sounds like something is very wrong and that you need proper medical attention.

My first thought is vertigo, or inner ear or sinus infection. Next would be thyroid disorder, low blood pressure. I have had all of the above, except vertigo, which my mother had. I also have vasovagal syncope - rare, but causes dizziness at times and is uncurable. Really I am healthy and happy and good diet, good doctors and excercise keep me in tip top shape and functioning just fine. Good luck. All were diagnosed from my pcp, but the vasovagal was from a neurologist.
