We didn't have steps in the house I grew up in. It was still a wonderfully magical time! I think perhaps you're focussing on a non-issue.
I am so silly that I am bummed that my rental doesnt have steps for christmas time. I have always equated christmas morning to walking down the steps to the tree (when we were little my brother and i would get up at 2am and crawl down face first on our hands to see if we could see the stocking filled hanging from the railing), and now watching my daughter walk down in jammies while i take pictures from the bottom of the steps, and now I don;t have steps this year=( I know, I know, there are worse things in the world...but come on.... Does anyone else love seeing their kid(s) walk down the steps christmas morning? Or used to but moved to a place without steps. Or am I the only crazy person that thinks steps are essential for the perfect christmas morning?
J. to clarify I'm not going to be bummed christmas morning nor am I really now, I am over exagerating..although I do fel like I will miss them a tad

I grew up in a ranch and own a ranch. Steps don't do a thing for M.. :)
Nope, I have never equated walking down the steps with Christmas morning, although it seems that Hollywood can envision no other way for it to occur.
Holidays are the traditions that YOU make that work for YOU, even though we oftentimes get caught up with trying to recreate the traditions of our families. Sometimes they are simply not feasible, and we J. have to deal and think of another way to make it memorable.
Maybe. Not crazy, J. nostalgic. My son would break his neck on our attic bedroom stairs, which is why he doesn't sleep up there with us! Broken neck-- not a great photo-op!:)
I grew up an Army brat, We lived in apartments, one story houses, duplexes with stairs and once or twice a two story house. The Christmas magic was always there, no matter where we lived or how we entered a room. It was a "rule" to wake up the parents before we went to see our loot and the living room was always blocked off in case we got too eager. My parents always got pics of us coming in. In every one there is a smile on our face and a twinkle in our eye. Even when 5 of us lived in a one bedroom one bath apartment in Germany. The setting made absolutely no difference at all.
I felt the same way for 2 years when we didn't have a fireplace. It's J. not to same to hang stockings on a wall! Lol. So grateful to have a mantle to put them on now. :)
Growing up we had steps but my parents never took pictures of us walking down. Mainly because we ALWAYS got up before them so we were already downstairs.
We do not have steps but I do have video of my girls walking out to the living room in awe. Those are J. as nice memories if you ask M.. (steps or no steps.)
I do it now and have for the past 3 years because we've had steps. Before that we didn't. I'd have the kids line up in the hallway before going out to the living room to get the pictures :).
They are not essential for a perfect Christmas morning though!! Think of how fun it will be to watch her open her gifts and her eyes light up from the magic of Christmas morning.
I think I've lived in one 2 story townhouse in my whole life. So, it's not a memory that I have, or one that I need to have for my child. I think we all have personal traditions, nothing wrong with that!
