I have an 8 month old boy who recently started waking up wet every morning:( He is in the right size diapers and it is so frustrating. He is a side sleeper and it seems like it leaks out that way. I was told to try different diapers, overnights, etc. but that didn't work. I even put my maxipads in his diaper but that didn't work. Help!!

What can I do next?

I have to get up at least once a night and change my daughter or she is wet in the morning. That is the only thing that works for me! It's either that, or wake up to a wet kid.

I use the cloth training underware over my sons diaper at night and that works for us. Because he was leaking as well. We also use the pampers overnights otherwise he would be still leaking everywhere.

Our son had skinny little legs and his diapers leaked out the side too. We use Luvs as they run smaller than huggies or pampers. But as soon as he could fit in the next size I switched him and did not worry what it said on the package. I also use Huggies Overnights in a size larger than the day time size. You could also cut back on his bedtime feeding. I noticed 8oz = leaks, but 6oz did not.

The only thing I found to work when my son went through this was to use a Huggies overnight diaper (I can't remember but I think I might have gone up a size from what he was wearing in the daytime diapers, especially when he was sort of between sizes) AND used something called a diaper doubler. I can't remember who made them, but at Babies R Us, you could buy disposable diaper liners. I suppose it would be sort of like putting in your maxipad, but since it's designed to fit inside the diaper, I think it would work better than what you tried. I would put the diaper insert in the overnight diaper and usually we'd be leak-free. My son went through this for quite awhile until I gradually realized I didn't need the insert. He is 2 1/2 now and potty trained including nighttime. In fact, night time was when he first started staying completely dry! So I'm sure your son will grow out of it. I never believed in limiting fluids or anything. Hope this helps.

We use cloth diapers, and never have leaks because you can stuff them as full as you need too. Maybe try picking up a couple CDs (Bum Genius or FuzziBunz would be my recommendations-- you can get them used on ebay or diaperswappers.com to save a few $$). Get extra stuffers. Or you could try getting some cloth stuffers (the microfiber ones work the best-- they hold tons) and put them inside his disposable diaper. I guess you could also try getting one size up in the disposables and putting the bigger one OVER his regular sized diaper.

That's the worst, and if he's like my son he's probably very cranky since he woke up too early! The only thing that works for us is overnights (regardless of brand) but one size bigger than his daytime diapers. I think this is because my son is kind of tall, though skinny for his age. We have to really cris cross the tabs at night, but it works for us. Good luck!

I had the same exact problem with my son, never my daughters. I think it might be a case of "morning wood" because despite my efforts to make sure he was pointed down, it still managed to leak. And the funny thing was the diaper was not saturated. I would try the next size up for night time... it might help if the diaper comes up a little higher on the abdomen. I still have this problem with my son... who is potty trained but now wears pull ups to bed. BOYS!!! Good luck!

We always had better luck w/ cloth diapers. Pocket diapers that were "double-stuffed" at night time kept my son dry. I know a lot of people who used wool diaper covers at night (not nearly as hot as you'd think!) for their heavy wetters since they absorb several times their weight in liquids.

I had this same issue with my son at around the same age. I started buying the Huggies nightime diapers one size bigger than his daytime diapers. It seemed the bigger size offered more 'holding' ability. It is very frustrating, I know, to wake up to a wet baby and crib every morning so hopefully this soon passes for you.

Will he wake up if you change his diaper during the night? Check him b/4 you go to bed and change it if it is wet.

I find that Huggies are the best and keeping the bed dry. Also if your having leakage issues make sure you have a waterproof mattress protector on the bed, and also maybe try limiting your baby's fluid intake at night, if your child goes to bed with a cup or bottle try to limit about 2-3 hrs before bed and if not then just the last hour before bed. Good luck hope one of these responses help!

If you are going by the size it says on the diaper package don't. Just go up one size and you should be fine. Once they start leaking it usually means it is time to go up a size even though the size on the package says otherwise. This was advice given to me when I had my first baby boy and I swear by it now! :) Good Luck!

First make sure to limit how much liquids he has about an hour before bedtime. Change him right before he goes to bed. Take one diaper and put it on the wrong way, butt part in the front first and then one on the regular way. It sounds crazy but I tried it with my son when he was an infant and it worked.

I agree--- Huggies Overnights in one size up from what he wears during the day. It seems to be the only thing that has worked for my son. He still wakes up wet once in a great while, but not every morning anymore.

When he was younger and making messes of all varieties in his crib regularly, I used to layer 2 or 3 sheets and waterproof pads on top of each other on his crib so that when he wet (or spit-up, or sweat) through his sheet, I could just pull off the top layer of sheet + waterproof pad and the next one was already on there. Made it much easier when I was only half awake in the morning or the middle of the night and balancing an infant in the other hand.

I'm with Tina. I have to do that. He wakes up for a midnight snack and that's when I change him so that I can get him back to sleep easier. I've tried all sorts of things too, and this is the only thing that has worked for us. I however when I'm super tired and lazy, I just put in a cloth diaper doubler and it works pretty well. I am using the Thirsties doublers. They are so soft too!

You're not specifying the brand of diaper you are using. All diapers occasionally have leakage problems. I have much less leakage problems with name-brand diapers. I use Pampers Cruisers or Huggies/Pampers Overnights lines and experience leaking ONLY if she fills her diaper to capacity because she has horrible diarrhea or something. All I can tell you is keep switching brands until you find one that works. Chances are if it's still leaking, then he actually ISN'T in the right size diaper. I sometimes buy a size lower than other mothers would because it clings tighter to the inside of her thighs and holds there tighter, and I experience almost no leaks whatsoever, whereas I experience MANY if I buy for her actual weight. It's probably that she is built tall and lean, instead of short and chunky, so the weight capacity for the diaper is pretty irrelevant in her case.

Hi!
Have you tried cutting back what he drinks in the evening? Perhaps along with the other suggestions that would help a little. Although, he may be too young for that if he's still nursing/drinking formula at certain times. Just a thought! :)
