Dating: First Christmas Gifts

I've been dating someone for a little over a month. We are very much enjoying each other's company but I am at a complete loss at what to get him for Christmas! Or do I get anything at all? He's the kind of guy that shows up for dates with candy or flowers, so I would be tremendously surprised if he doesn't show up with something for me.

He loves Christmas, so I did pick him up an ornament from my last business trip overseas. He doesn't have any of the usual hobbies--golf, sports, etc. I certainly don't want to go overboard, and I know it isn't about the price tag, but what is the right message?

A couple of books from an author I know he likes? A museum membership? I took him to a special exhibit at the museum and lunch for his birthday last week...spent just around $50 for the two of us.

Any suggestions?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks ladies! I am glad that I am not completely off base. I don't usually have a hard time with gifts, but I've never been in a new relationship so close to Christmas. I'll get a couple of books for sure, add the ornament, and baking him something will go a long way (I made cookies for his birthday and he really enjoyed them).

We won't be meeting my family for sure! They are 1500 miles away, but we'll probably do something casual at my house.

Thanks again for the good ideas and positive reinforcement.

P.S. I hope it does turn out to be something that lasts...he is really such a nice guy.

When I was dating, I would buy the guy shirts, boxers, Craftsman tools, wallet, or cologne. How much are you looking to spend? I typically spent $100 (this would have been 7 to 10 years ago....) I always tried to find a guy something they would USE. Something more practical........

But you could spend less if you wanted.....

Sounds like you have some great ideas already. He'll love the ornament, get him just a little something more that you know fits his personality. Nothing too personal after just one month of dating. Books are a great idea. Does he wear scarves or pocket squares? Accessories are always a good idea.
Keep the gift low cost, but do plan a nice date to celebrate Christmas together. Way too soon to drag him to your parents house, so perhaps an evening out the night before where you can exchange gifts.

Your relationship is very new, I'd keep it something very simple yet thoughtful. Maybe a gift certificate for a nice restaurant that you could both enjoy or some concert tickets?

Maybe a nice bottle of wine to go with the ornament? There are some really nice ones out there in every price range.

I would try to keep it lighthearted... maybe a pair of cheesy Christmas boxers and something to go along with a hobby of his.

Congratulations on finding someone worth your time and, possibly, love!!! The ornament itself sounds like a GREAT gift already...I'd go for an "easy" book, something with great pictures on it, for example (Barnes and Nobles has some many!!). I'd also cook/bake something myself and put it in a nicely wrapped box/jar. Since he's so thoughful I am sure he'll appreciate the time and effort you put in it. But if you think this is too intimate, then the book with a dedication onto sounds great to me!

Since he really likes Christmas an ornament sounds really good. Look for one that is hand painted or hand crafted. I once saw a lady that may ornaments out of egg shells and string. The egg was a whole picture then she used the string to create the surrounding scene. It was beautiful. Books are always nice as well. Boxers you may be telling him you want to see him in them in the morning. Not sure if you are at that point yet or not.
