Cutest Baby in the World

Just a little vent...

A local photographer is having a photo contest in which the baby's pic that receives the most vote wins a prize. Many of my Facebook friends have posted pics of their kids and requested on their pages that everyone vote for them. That's all fine - we all think our kids are the greatest and there's nothing wrong with that! - but some people are being really annoying about it. A few have even posted comments like: "Ok people, I have 300 friends and only 25 of you have voted for my kid. He's obviously the cutest one on there, so go support him please!" Yikes! That's just pushy and off-putting, in my opinion.

When my son was first born, I posted his pic on one of these sites, but I never followed through with it because I just wasn't comfortable asking other people to vote for him. It seemed too much like soliciting compliments and I felt like it would be awkward and tacky. Again, just my opinion.

What are your thoughts on this?

So What Happened?

I'm sorry if you're into this...I have about 10 friends who are doing this right now, so my newsfeed is FILLED with these posts. It's just overload today. I don't mean to be snarky if you have participated in one of these contests - I actually don't really remember being bothered by it before it was all I was hearing and reading about!

I don't think those contests are actually about who is the cutest kid. I think they are about how many friends can you bully into voting.

Time to block those people for awhile until they get over themselves a bit.
(Besides - MY baby was/is the cutest and I didn't need anyone voting for him to be sure I am right.)
You might try posting this old joke, (but you might lose some friends):
A woman got on a bus holding a baby. The bus driver looked at the child and blurted out, "That's the ugliest baby I've ever seen!" Infuriated, the woman slammed her fare into the fare box and took an aisle seat near the rear of the bus. The man seated next to her sensed that she was agitated and asked her what was wrong. "The bus driver insulted me," she fumed.
The man sympathized and said, "Why, he shouldn't say things to insult passengers. He could be fired for that." "You're right," she said.
"I think I'll go back up there and give him a piece of my mind!"
"That's a good idea," the man said. "Here, let me hold your monkey."

We brought our newborn son, Justin, to the pediatrician for his first checkup. As he finished, the doctor told us, "You have a cute baby." By smiling, I said, "I bet you say that to all new parents."
"No," he replied, "just to those whose babies really are good-looking."
"So what do you say to the others?" I asked. "He looks just like you."

Nope, I don't vote for those...sorry...when someone asks me to do it - I simply state - sorry - I don't do contests...your kid is really cute, but I don't participate in those contests!! GOOD LUCK!!!

If they don't like it? too bad. And yes - like you - it's like asking or begging for compliments.

Well I am sorry but I have the cutest babies in the world!!! :D Weird, when my friends start doing weird things on face book I just hide their posts and then I don't have to be annoyed. Then I can just pop on their page once in awhile and see what is up with them if I want. I have hidden some pretty good friends for awhile because of things similar. It gets on my nerves sometimes even when I have a friend doing something for a good cause, bc it can be ALL they post about and it's just overkill. I use FB to post about silly things my kids do, quirky things in life etc so I don't want to be bombarded with the latest thing I should be all concerned about. So that's me, I'd just hide them for awhile, you can always unhide them later and they are never the wiser! ;)

I agree with you! A good friend of mine is doing a similar thing to raise money for a really good cause...but it has gone on and on daily for 2-3 months. I'm just sick of it. And almost daily she posts a guilt trip for those "who haven't been voting". No offense, but I just don't have time to go vote every day. And when does it end? Annoying :)

I agree with you. My b-i-l did that with his twins for their first halloween, and than got upset that not everyone sent the pics to everyone they knew and asked them to vote. I was annoyed by him so I voted for a baby that I thought was the cutest.

Well, my new grandson is absolutely, without a doubt, the cutest baby in the world. I don't need votes on facebook about it.
:)
:)
I do have a facebook account, but I don't even use it let alone put pictures on there. And, as much as I love my family and friends who are obsessed with facebook, I never take the quizzes or participate in any of the myriad of other things they send to me.
It's just not my thing. They all know that and they know not to take offense.
Anyway, some people are way more into the facebook thing than I ever will be and I personally don't get it, but that's just me.
If anyone needed me to vote for anything like that....they'd be waiting a long darn time.
I pay no attention to what goes on on facebook.
That's just me.
The baby thing? There are no pictures of my grandson on the internet.
Thank goodness.
He's so cute he might break it.

:)

I know just how you feel...I have friends doing this too...I don't vote...and my husband and I would never do this to our child. Do we think he is handsome...yes! Do we think he is the cutest? Absolutely! But my husband says we don't need to enter him into these contests to tell us that...we already know...and all it is popularity.

Really?? Whatever. I don't have pictures of my kids on the internet, except maybe on my MIL's FB. But we don't have a fb account.

I would just ignore it.

That's why I never do these contests... even though my DD really is the cutest baby in the world! ;) These contests aren't based on how cute your baby is, they are based on how many people you can get to vote for your kid. I'm like you, just not comfortable pushing people to vote...
