Comforter or Duvet Cover?

I'm finally getting a new cover for my bed, and I'm so excited to get rid of the baby-stained comforter we have now! I'm not sure whether to get a new comforter or a white comforter with a duvet cover. I'm not sure if there are any advantages to either. What do you think? Thanks!

What can I do next?

Duvet Cover all the way!!! It is SO easy to wash if something gets spilled on it (and inevitably something will). I will never buy another comforter with designs on it again!

I love my duvets. I would definitely go that route. It is much easier to wash the fabric duvet cover without all the bulk of a comforter. Plus, you can switch out the cover for various looks if you get bored with the one you have.
I've just read the other posts. My only experience is with Pottery Barn duvets. I have never had a problem with them at all.

My mom and myself are 100% duvet users! You can have a summer duvet and a heavier winter duvet but always us the same cover. You can change out your covers...need i go on? Bed bath and beyond has a wide array of duvets and they can explain them to you. You can then us a discount card they send in the mail toget one or take the knowledge and buy one online:)

i love sleeping under a comforter....i hate cleaning it. it never fits my washer, i sweat trying to get it in. it takes half a day for it to dry. so it's not really user-friendly.
i don't like sleeping under a duvet cover. it never stays, it jumbles up all over the place.
the lesser of two evils? duvet cover with a white comforter, UNLESS you have a big washer, then absolutely get a comforter. the one i have now (getting ready to get rid of it) is RL, beautiful, so warm and comfortable, BUT looks like it's been run over by horses because it never cleans properly.

I love duvets! The comforters are so much softer and there are more options to chose from, as far as weight and warmth, down or synthetic. AND the covers are great because you can alternate them to change it up a bit when you have a few. Ikea has TONS of duvets and covers that are very affordable, there are many other places that carry them, but I was impressed with the prices at Ikea. I just bought my daughter one for her toddler bed with the cutest pink elephant cover and pillow case! Anyway, my vote is for the duvet!!

Duvet cover.... absolutely--It's a whole lot easier to wash the duvet then the whole comforter, and less hard on your washing machine.

We bought a down comforter and duvet for $100 10 years ago, and it's been awesome. In the fall/spring, we have just the duvet on, over a sheet and a blanket. In the winter, we put the comforter & duvet together and voila! - toasty warm bed! :)

I would go with a duvet! Carson's has great insert comforters and Crate and Barrel has some REALLY cute duvet covers. Ikea also has duvet covers but I've purchased these and the fabric (even the higher end one at Ikea) don't compare to Crate and Barrel.

I have found that my duvet is a pain in the butt!!!! After washing the cover it is really hard to get back on. I am also looking into re-doing our bedroom and am totally going back to the comforter!!!! Good luck!!!!

I vote for a duvet & cover(s). We have picked up a number of duvet covers at Ikea and change the look of our bedrooms with every wash. Love them!

I had a cover one time and hated it, it never stayed on, it never laid flat. It was constantly twisted crooked and that was my biggest issue with it.

Duvet cover! Easier to wash and you can change it out for a whole new look in your room.

I vote for a duvet cover too! I get down alternative comforters and a duvet cover set for each bed in our house. With the duvet cover you can change colors easily and it fits right into the washing machine. (When a comforter needed washing I always had to lug it down to the laundromat for the commercial-sized machines.) The only thing is that many duvet covers are expensive, but look for sales...or buy the budget solid color ones at Target.

For an adult size bed the duvet cover is easier to wash and you can get a nicer comforter (like down) for inside if you want. My son has a twin size comforter which he loves and the polyfill stuffing washes and dries easily so that is great for a little kid. I king or queen size comforter is a pain to wash unless you have a big front loader washer at home.

HI,

I know getting knew bedding is so exciting!! I have a devet cover and after almost 6 years....I have had it. Not sure if they have invented something knew since then but the down comforter that fits inside slides everywhere. Sometimes my husband has all the warmth because the inside comforter has slid over inside. I have tried to safety pin it but that doesn't last long. So good luck in deciding what to do. Maybe someone has a great tip for both of us with the duvet cover.

Duvet (down comfortable) is my vote and then cover it with a duvet cover. But don't by cheap...my a good one and you won't have to replace it for years. If you buy cheap, you'll have feathers everywhere and it will bunch up in places. Company Store has great duvets but watch the sizes cause duvet and duvet covers vary in size and you want them to fit. Some duvet covers even have strings in the inside corners to tie to the duvet to keep it secure. If I were you, I'd buy the duvet and cover from the same place if possible and make sure they are the same size.

The one and only thing I splurge on is my bedding:) I have both but if had to choose just one, I would go with a down comforter with a duvet cover...so easy to wash and to redecorate you just buy a new cover not the whole comforter...makes life simpler...however I must add that they can be a pain sometimes to get them to lay flat and not bunch...I find they do require more fussing when making the bed, just FYI.
