Clutter-Help!

I always feel like the clutter never ends in my house. I purge, donate, help my kids clean their rooms; try to keep the master bedroom fairly tidy. However, the clutter doesn't go away. Especially piles of things. It's not on the floors or walk way areas. I like to be organized overall, but since I got married and had kids-I just can't seem to do it like I want to. I usually feel like I don't have enough time...I have read so many things and gone to mini-workshops on what to do and how to organize but it seems overwhelming when I actually try to do it. I want to hear some real life solutions of what works and what you Mamas have done. This is an average week: I work full time during the day in Human Resources, so my kids go to preschool and my husband has a career where he is away a lot during the evenings-I would say 3 nights out of 7 that he gets home after 8:30 p.m. Sometimes my daughter has piano during the week on a weekday, but sometimes it's on Saturday mornings. On weekends and evenings, I cook dinner, other meals, handle laundry and spend time with my kids and husband. Who has time to organize or think of tackling that clutter pile? PLEASE HELP!!

I agree with the other gals about Flylady.com. What I've learned is that it's all about routines (which is what Flylady helps you with). It's about having a system that is easy & consistent (for mail & that kind of stuff). It also helps a ton to have buy in from the rest of the family to learn to help clean up their own stuff. I know your husband isn't there a lot - & that's a bummer - but the up side is that he isn't there to make more clutter :)

join FlyLady.net. She helps develop a routine that will work for you. She teaches strategies and sends daily reminders of what you need to do each day. It's broken down into "Flying" lessons. It's really helped me a lot.

One small help for me is - when I get the mail I sort through it by the outside garbage can and throw away the "junk" before it even comes into the house! Bills I immediately pay - not wait until the thing is due - with my online bill pay. I check to see if there is a change, schedule the payment, then trow away the bill - my bank keeps a record of paid bills, I don't have the clutter.
Also, remeber baby steps. One thing at a time.
