Cloth Training Pants

I'm looking for a good, cloth alternative to Pull-Ups for when my son is mostly potty trained, but not quite. Just for going out. I tried the Gerber All-in-One training pants, but they were SO puffy and leaked some - they also left big red marks on his legs. What would be ideal is a waterproof outer, cotton inner (where he'd feel the wet and not have it wisked away), and to pull off like underwear. Oh, and I'd like it to be affordable too (I know I'm difficult). Thanks in advance!

What can I do next?

Try Kushies brand training pants. I've never seen them in a local store so you'll have to look online for them. They sell a wide variety of cloth diapers and the training pants for potty training are the best I've seen/used. The inside is soft absorbant (but not too absorbant - they still feel wet!) cotton and the outside is waterproof material. They pull on/off like underwear, aren't too bulky and have a variety of fun kid prints on the outside.

I have not personally tried this yet, but a friend told me that she would put a pair of "big girl/big boy" underpants on her child and then a pull-up over it. The moisture stays around to make them uncomfortable and want to use the potty but the pull-up keeps it from leaking. Like I said, haven't tried it yet, but it sounds like a good idea. :)

Meredith, Check out www.babyworks.com. They have a variety of cloth diapers and training pants. They are not the most economical, but they are washable and made of very high quality. We used their cloth diapers with our first two children.

Hi:) I use cloth diapers and planned on doing cloth trainers as well. I just Googled "cloth training pants" and this is what it came up with:
http://www.google.com/search?q=cloth+training+pants&i...

If you find something you are interested in, then I would check Ebay, diaperswappers.com, and diaperpin.com to see if you can get a few gently used or new for cheaper. (Don't worry, washing them in the washing machine sterilizes them.)

Good Luck:)

you might look on diaperswappers.com, I don't cloth diaper myself (I wish I were that dedicated) but I have heard great things about the site! I am pretty sure you can log on as a guest and read the forums. Good luck to you!

Meredith, I just put my son in regular briefs. He does have pee accidents when he falls asleep in the car but is otherwise potty-trained. Your post turned on a light bulb for me. I'm going to put a cloth diaper cover over his undies. I used Mother-ease one size cloth diapers and so have the covers left over. They're very light weight and keep moisture in very well. You may want to check out their website or even buy some used on ebay. Not much laundering, just rinse with water and air dry.

Hi, Meredith --

Have you tried just simple plastic pants on the outside of the underwear? I used these when potty training my daughter, and she disliked them so much, it was a definite incentive to get her potty act together. They do tend to leave red marks unless they are a little loose, but then there can be drips.

If you want to get really thrifty, you could use a pair of undepants, then a thin maxipad inside the plastic pants...

I wish you luck!

I'm in the same place. Gerber makes some training pants with a waterproof outer lining. They have them at Target and Walmart. My daughter needed a smaller size, so I had to go to Ebay to get hers. They just came in, and I was very disappointed. They leaked horribly.

We've just gone with underwear at home, and pull ups outside until she's fully trained.

I got cloth pullup training pants at http://www.snap-ez.com/
They have training pants that snap on the sides, in case of messy accidents. I don't recall the prices...
