I have beige carpet that has a small cigarette burn. I know cleaning won't remove it but how can I disguise/cover it up?

What can I do next?

Hi--

If the burn is just on top of the carpet and small, I would get some embroidery shears and trim the top off. Embroidery shears are angled and small so you could easily top off the burn and blend the height in. If the burn is deep, though, I wouldn't do it.

Good luck!

I had a large burn in my carpet from a lamp that tipped while on, leaving a burn from the light bulb. I cut out a square with a razor to remove the burn, and then cut an exact sized piece from an extra piece of the same carpet (or a spot no one ever sees. I glued it in and put a weight on it for a day. Now you can not even tell anything ever happened.

Hi T.! Depending on the type/length of carpet, you should be able to "shave" the burn off with some sharp scissors. I have had this happen in the past, both by cigarettes and by an iron (don't ask!). I found that the burns were easily removed by cutting the burnt area off the top of the carpet with some sharp scissors. If you don't take too much off, you can't tell the difference once you're done! Good luck, and I hope this helps!

If you don't have extra carpet, take some from the back of a closet. Also, don't cut a square, instead cut a circle - less likely to show the edges. Home Depot & Lowes sells a carpet cutting tool which will cut a perfect circle for you. We did this in our last house and you couldn't tell where the problem area was.

Jen C's idea is great, but if the burn is small and you don't have extra carpet to cut from you can also cut single carpet fibers from multiple locations on the carpet and superglue them onto to burn spot.(after cutting out the burn mark, but leave the carpet base intact)

I'm no expert - but if it were me, I'd take an exacto and carefully cut single strands of carpet from various parts around the room so it's not noticeable anywhere. Then I'd stitch them together in a small bundle so they don't come apart - not too tightly, just so they look like the'd blend well. Then I'd take out my trusty glue gun and carefully "implant" these so they looked right - and say a prayer!!!

Best of luck,

Hi,
Try cutting it out. If you snip away just a little of the carpet on the surface, it will remove the burnt part but leave just enough so that it isn't noticeably cut... I guess it depends on how deep the burn is, but i used this solution for getting an ink stain out once! good luck!

I had the same problem, and same color carpet. If you can find a piece of the carpeting (maybe in the corner of a closet that you can cut shavings off of, then put a couple of drops of super glue on the burn spot (after you've cut away as much of the black as you can, fill in the shavings on top of the super glue, and press down with the back side of a spoon to smooth. It will totally cover it.
PS~ make sure you trim enough shavings to fill in the size burn.

Carefully cutting away the burned ends of the carpet fibers should work. Do be careful though while cutting to not get carried away, you'll end up with a bald patch that looks worse than the burn.

We've also taken a small scrap of the same carpet from a closet and cut a patch for the burned spot. Glue the patch to the pad and brush the "seams" to blend.

I saw on a tlc home show they had gotten something on the new carpet it was a very small spot but still enough to stand out and they cut out a few strands of the carpet. Hopefully ur spot is that small that this will help if not good luck

Do you have any extra pieces of the carpet? If so, carefully cut out the blackened part of the burn and then using a super fabric glue, insert a tiny piece of the carpet over the burn.

You can take a paire of scissors and cut it off. I once dropped hot charcoal on my carpet and was able to cut the burns out of the carpet.
