Brown Latex Paint on White Carpet... Advice?

Hi...

In my quest to be a do-it-yourselfer (which I am so NOT), I accidentally sprayed four lovely lines of chocolate brown latex paint in the middle of a white-carpeted room. Gosh, how I wish I could lay the blame on my 3-year-old... but, no. It was me. I am the sole recipient of the "Worst DIY of the Year" award! Now, the paint has dried and I have been unable to remove any of the stain/paint. Does anyone have any tips or tricks to salvaging the carpet... or should I just admit defeat and remove the carpet all together? I'm willing to try nearly anything at this point.

Many humbling thoughts of thanks to anyone who can help!

What can I do next?

Hi M.!

I am sorry but I don't have any ideas of getting the paint out other than cutting it out.

However, you did say that the stains/paint were in the middle of the room. Why not try the other suggestion and if that doesn't work, put an area rug over the spot. I have seen many rooms be accessorized with an area rug over existing carpet. I have done this for places where I couldn't get wax out of carpet or wanted to conceal and lessen worn areas in a carpet.

Good Luck!

I've never tried it on carpet, but Shaklee's Basic H2 got dried latex paint out of my clothes. Use a few drops with some warm water and Shaklee's Nature Bright (to help get the color of the paint off the carpet) and the combination will clean just about anything. Plus, it's green and non-toxic so no harm to animals/kids/those with allergies.

Because I love their products so much, I became a distributor: http://shaklee.net/carriebarta. If you're interested but want to see if it'll work before you buy it, you may be able to find a local distributor in your area that would be willing to give you a demonstration. Just go to www.shaklee.net and search your area!

Hi,
How frustrated you must be. You already received the advice I would have given. We have repeatedly been able to get paint out of carpet with Shaklee's cleaning products. My husband was able to get spilled then walked-on paint out of carpet at his job. You will definitely want to be careful what kinds of products you put on flooring where that wonderful three-year-old could be exposed to it. We think we rinse it off but in fact there is always residue left. I use all of Shaklee's products and would be happy to let you try some to see if it would be successful in getting out your paint. Since I don't know where you are, please feel free to contact me off site if you'd like to give these a try: ____@____.com.

I believe the only way you're going to fix this one is to spend quite a long time doing this....

take a small comb and try to brush the fibers so they stick straight up, then trim off the tops of the carpet with scissors. Also, another thing you can do if you end up having to trim off a lot of it, is cut some fibers from inconspicuous areas like around the trim or in a closet and superglu them one at a time to replace the ones you have to cut. I learned this from a roommate who had burned some holes in the carpet of a rental and wanted to fix them so we got our deposit back. You couldn't even tell when she was done

There is a latex paint remover from carpet and fabric available at Bed Bath and Beyond. I've used it (My DH spilled a whole gallon of blue paint in the back of our SUV) and it worked great on carpet, not so great on fabric. Hope this helps.

There is a product called Goof Off 2 which is supposed to remove latex paint from fabric and carpet. I never tried it but I remember seeing it last time I bought paint at Lowe's. I think it was with the paint thinners.
Good Luck!
