My husbands friend is having his child baptized this weekend. Do you buy a gift? If so what do I get? The baby is 4 months old.

We always give money or with family buy a bond. Some people buy keepsakes (like from the Catholic store or Hallmark) and that may be the way to go if it's not a really close friend. HTH!
I would get maybe alittle outfit,or books, stuffed animal,something to let them know you are thinking of them.
Theresa, Sure you should get a baptism gift. It can be anything from a special book (God made me so I must be Special is a great one) a Bible, or maybe even a gift certificate. Check out your local Hallmark or Christen Book store for ideas. What you choose should depend on how well you know the family and how religious they are or plan to be. Enjoy the day.
I like to give a savings bond... sometimes a small baptism/christening keepsake which you can find at most Hallmark stores or religious stores.
I always give a photo frame that either says "Baptism" or "Christening" or with a cross. For close friends I engrave with the child's name and date of baptism.
Yes, you do bring a gift. Its what you can afford. Most give money. Babies are expensive so gift cards are always nice. Pending on the relationship, maybe something personlized.
You only buy a present if you go to the party or event. And then you could buy anything symbolic of the day or a card with money for a savings account of sorts.
Some ideas: Wall hangings (like crosses etc) necklace; if its a girl, christian themed books, a small bible. . .The gifts are usually kept small but just keep the christian theme and you should be good to go.
Another idea is if you have a christian book store nearby they would be able to stear you in any direction and help with keeping within your budget.

My "trademark" for baptisms is a personalized baby blanket from the place in the middle of malls that personalizes everything like for weddings and graduations and stuff. It's always been a hit, but of course did I get one for my own kids? NOPE!! lol
