Can Someone Help Me Come up with a Price ???

We have a swing set that we want to sell. It is all metal and powder coated paint. Some of the metal paint has chipped but for the most part it is well made and pretty good condition. A friend made it with the steel company here and we got it for free. My kids have out grown it. It is HEAVY and hard to move and take apart...so whoever is willing will have a lot of effort to move it. Anyway, have no clue where to start to price something like this. Should we go cheaper because they have to move it ?????

It has a platform, pull, monkey bars, two swings and a trapeze bar

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

i do agree to have it for free.... I guess everyone wants to try and get some cost out of something at first, but the true colors are of what you all said..... Pay it forward and hauling it off is enough trouble in itself.... THANK YOU.

Doubt if anyone is gonna pay plus do all the work to move it and put it together again....I would advertise on Craigslist...free to a loving home but you have to move it. Just my suggestion!

if it were me? I would give it away. Who ever wants to haul it away, can.

Reason? You got it for free - got use out of it. So pay it forward.

Ad should be "yours for free if you are willing to move it." I mean you did
not pay for it. I do not think anyone will pay for it and move it. Sorry.

If you got it for free, that was a blessing, why not be a blessing to someone else and give it to them free? you got it free brand new, now it's used be a bleesing for someone else. J.

If it were me, I'd give it away. Think of the blessing it was to your family, and pass that along to someone else.

Look at what a comparable swing set sells for at the store and then adjust your price downward since your set is used and they will have to move it.

Craigslist - tell them its free for whoever is willing and able to move it. They're essentially doing you a favor by moving it off your property so you shouldn't have them pay anything. If you're in a tight financial situation and you need this money for something, then do research on what a comparable set costs and then advertise it for 25-30% of that but you might not get any buyers given the cumbersome nature of the job.

The sets I've seen for free on craigslist (and I've looked over the years) have been the crappy, lightweight, I wouldn't-want-my-kid-on-that kind of swingset.

If we're talking powdercoated steel???

Those kind usually end up handed down, or sold at more than a new-crappy-one costs!!!

I'd look online at new ones and get an idea of comparable ones.

Sometimes it's just more important to get something dispositioned. You got the swingset free and your children got lots of enjoyment from it. Why not provide that opportunity for someone else. Unless you really need the money, perhaps "free to good home" for whoever can quickly make the necessary arrangements to move it??
Good luck.

I would call your local charity....there is one in my town where families in need register for things like help with groceries, school clothes & supplies, etc. I'd see if they know of a family in need that could use the set for their kids to have something to play on. It feels good to help out kids that would otherwise not have the opportunity to have such a nice playset.

I only read one answer after reading your SWH. I was going to say see what others are paying on Craigslist, then go about the same price or cheaper.

Do NOT scrap it. You'll get a couple bucks and likely spend more money in gas driving to the scrap yard. Sure it's metal, but we recycle every piece of metal in our home and get very little payback.

Unless you are willing to deliver I'd let it go for free.

This kind of reminds me of the craigslist ads after storms for "free firewood" with a picture of a fallen tree onto a garage and the notation: You can have it if you cut it up and haul it away!

Seriously, "free" is a very fair price for someone getting it off of your property! :)

While everyone says free, I'd put it on CL for $25 at first. Yes, I'm sure it is a lot less than you thought. When things are free you deal with a lot of people who are wishy-washy. When you sell something, you are saying it has value and people respond better to that.

Another option is to sell it for scrap metal - but that sounds like a waste. Kids could definitely get some more use out of it - which is worth a lot more than just money.

I don't think you're going to get very much because you're not disassembling or helping with delivery at all. Some is going to have to spend gas, manpower, time, etc. just to get the thing loaded, all to have to reassemble it at home. I would just list it for free, esp. since you didn't pay anything for it & won't be out anything.

Free. I got a 15k Rainbow set for free last summer. You'd have to pay me to take apart and move a swing set unless it was a good one.

If it is going to take a lot of effort to move it I would go for free. That is what I have had to do with any old yard stuff they outgrow.

Without seeing it I don't think I could give you an idea beyond that.

You can often find sets for free or for very little on craigslist. I would list it free to whoever comes to get it first.
