I bought 10 pounds of meat and a huge thing of sliced cheese, the american cheese style. I would like to freeze half for next week rather than eat sandwhiches until I can't stand it anymore. Is this okay?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you. That's great. I had already broken everything down into groups of two for everything and put them in plastic containers when it dawned on me that I have plenty of room in my downstairs freezer. 1/2 will definitely go away. Shopping at Sams is going to take some getting used to :)

I'm glad you posted this :) I never even thought about it. I'm going to pick up extra wraps and freeze hubby some sandwiches for work.

YES!! YES!! YES!!! You can freeze anything - really- milk does freeze as well - but NOT in the plastic containers they come in - my mom used to buy 6 gallons of milk at a time and freeze the containers - they made AWESOME ice cubes for our many picnics!!!

Cheese DOES freeze!! SERIOUSLY - DO NOT defrost it in the microwave - but ALL cheese - even the blocks can be frozen. Take them out about 3 hours prior to when you want to use them. I do this all the time and it does NOT make the cheese bad!

If you aren't going to use all of it - break it down in to sets and then in a freezer bag - you are good to go!!!

Sure can! We do it all the time!!! My advice is to portion it out. I put roughly the same amount into several different bags. Make sure that you get ALL the air out of the bag before you freeze it, so it doesn't get freezer burnt.
Don't defrost the meat or the cheese in the microwave though. Just put it in the fridge the day before. Sometimes the meat will be a little watery. I just get rid of the bag it was in and put it in a fresh bag.

Yes. I separate into ziplock baggies so when you thaw in fridge you dont have to thaw ALL of it.

I do it all the time. Sometimes, I'll make up a whole bunch of sandwiches at once, put them in individual ziploc bags and freeze them. Just bread, cold cuts and cheese. They are great for school lunches, just grab and go, the sandwich defrosts in the back pack and is ready to eat a few hours later. I don't use mayo and if my kids want it on their sandwich, they can slap some on when they get the sandwich out for school.

the meat, yes. Cheese. . . that just sounds gross. I wouldn't even if it is ok.
