I bought 2 lbs of sliced ham from the deli for a party and didn't end up using much of it. Can I freeze it?

What can I do next?

I freeze it all the time.

When I take it out to defrost I wait until the freezer bag is warmed up enough to be able to open it (the meat is still pretty frozen) and I put a few paper towels around the meat (to absorb the melting H20 ) and put it back in the fridge. Works like a charm.

you can but I don't think I'd use it for sandwiches once defrosted. It would still be good fried with eggs for breakfast, or diced in a quiche or noodle casserole (yummy with baked mac & cheese). I would freeze it in a couple of different freezer bags so you can take out only what you need when you need it.

Yes. I would suggest separating so you don't have to thaw it all at once.

Of course you can. Like anything else you freeze it won't have that fresh as a daisy appearance as when you first bought it, but it will still eat good!

Hi Momma-
As long as you seal it in freezer bags, it should be fine for a few months, honestly. Next time you want to use it, pull it out, defrost, and reheat all the way through.
I know that our local food pantries freeze lunch meat so that when people pick it up in the summer, if they are walking, it won't go bad on the way home. We keep it for months.
Hope that helps

I find that ham freezes kind of funky. Although it's fine to eat, I like the suggestion of Susan T. to use it in meals rather than on a sandwich.

Yes. I do it all the time. It will change the texture slightly. I also recommend thawing on paper towels.

you can, but be it will be "wet" when it defrosts, so when you go to the supermarket ask at the deli counter for an extra bag and papers so you can put it on clean, dry paper and a dry bag.
