the best blender is the Magic Bullet-I love it-and you can find them on sale at Kohls quite often--S.
Our old blender finally conked out on us. We're looking to buy a new one that's good for smoothies. We don't use it for a lot other than that. We're not opposed to spending big bucks on a really nice one, but we want to know that it's worth it. Do you love your blender? If so, please pass along the info on what kind it is and how much it is. Thank you.

We actually have the Magib Bullet from the infomercials, you can get it at Kohl's or Walgreens, too. We LOVE it for smoothies, and it is great for pureeing your own dips or baby foods too....not good for things you want to stay "chunky" or just chopped thoug - excellent for purees/smoothies!
We've had a Vita Mix blender for 15 years (not a cheap brand, but very durable). It's wonderful--very powerful and can make everything from soups to hummus to fabulous smoothies. I'd highly recommend it.
I agree with the previous poster, the Magic Bullet is wonderful.. We received this as a birthday present and I swear we use it daily.. It's great with smoothies, but we also make the recipes that are in there and baby food for our daughter very easily. you can make your smoothies directly in the glasses you will be drinking them in. I would highly recommend them. The only thing is that you need to look at what you get if you buy them at the stores.. we got ours from the store and it did not come with the big blender container or juicer attachments which I was kinda disappointed with but the rest is wonderful..
HI E.,
I agree with Kathy M, the Smoothie Elite is great and inexpensive!

Hi E.. I use my blender mainly for smoothies and to make salsa sometimes (I prefer to make pico de gallo tho - the 'not blended salsa'). I just bought an inexpensive one at Walmart a few years back - Hamilton Beach, 10 speed, 5 cup GLASS jar, $19. I love it! On Friday I purchased one at Walmart for my daughter (first apartment, in college) - Oster, 14 speed, 5 cup, glass jar, $24. I sent her the link so she could see it and she said she will like it. She wanted it mainly to make smoothies too.
Good luck!
We love our Magic Bullet for lots of things--smoothies, whipped cream, guacamole, salsa, babyfood, etc. But if you're looking for a conventional blender, the only recommendation I have is to get one with a glass container (instead of plastic). It will last much longer.
My sister just bought a Blendtec...I guess she was saving and holding out for the best. It heats up soup, and freezes ice cream. Not to mention blends like a champ. Salsa and smoothies..you name it. She also added everything to her smoothies including carrots and greens and it came out liquid. My kids loved it and drank the best smoothies with healthy ingredents while we were with her. I make smoothies too, but carrots are too much for my blender. Look up "will it blend" on Youtube and you will see the maker of this product blending everything (it is funny) any way, if you want the supreme of all supreme blenders I recomend the Blendtec. It will cost you 399. (ouch) but worth it.
You say you will use mainly for smoothies. We have enjoyed using a Smoothie Elite by Back to Basics Products, Inc. Although I received as a gift, I have seen on sale for around $20 and it comes with a nice guide book with good recipes.
do not get a gourmet blender. The blades are up to high for it to chop well. It's really only good for liquids.

For smoothies, we love our Magic Bullet - cups fit right in the dishwasher and don't take up much room.
I like my Oster. I've had it for several years now.
