My current blender is about 13 yrs old. It is nothing special and i think it is time for a new blender. I like smoothies and I am looking for a blender that is good with ice, etc. I have read a few smoothie recipes recently that have spinach in them and I am very tempted, I dont think my current blender wiould do well with spinach because i feel like it stuggles with ice or icecream.

fI have been at Costco a time or two when they have the special presentations on the Vitamix 5200 demonstration and I am giving it some thought but then again it is a pretty pricey blender. Does anyone else have a brand that is good with spinach, ice, ice cream lmetc? I lnow you can do a lot in the vitamix but I think I would mainly use ift for drinks.

Trying to figure out what to buy. The vitamix or another brand?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I bought the vitamix and bullet. I plan on returning one, most likely the bullet. I have heard nothing but good things about the vitamix but it is a lot of money. My current blender is about 14 yrs old and needs replaced. I assume I will mostly likely make smoothies with it and I like the idea of the carrots, celery, apples, oranges and other fresh fruits and veggies. Looking for new recipes for the vitamix.

I have had my magic bullet for 10 years and I am just now getting to the point where I need to purchase a new one. I make smoothies almost daily that consists of WHOLE frozen strawberries, avocado, bananas, spinach, flax seed and OJ, and my bullet handles all ingredients wonderfully. Plus, the containers you blend in are your cup you can easily take with you!

I make smoothies almost daily and use my magic bullet. I have had it for about 8 years and it is still going strong. Plus the container you blend it is also becomes the cup, so no extra dishes.

I had the Magic Bullet for years and loved it. It broke so I went to BB&B and got a Ninja-which I love. If you just want it for smoothies/shakes then the Magic Bullet or the Cuisinart smoothie one would be best. The Ninja has a chooper container for chopping veggies and it has 2 sizes of pitchers. I use spinach in my smoothies everday.

cuisinart makes a nice blender. I know that you could get a nice one at a good price at boscov's if you have one where you live. Good luck

I don't use spinach, but I have a Cuisinart immersion blender and I use it every day for drinks/smoothies. Not expensive and extra easy to clean.

I have a couple of friends who have Vitamix blenders and I do know that they are the best of the best. If you buy one, you will have it for life. They are also the blender of choice in a lot of the cookbooks that I've been reading. I know that they are very pricey so I've started tucking away a little bit of money each week to get one for when my current one dies -- and I know it will eventually.

If you don't want to spend the money on the Vitamix right now, I currently have a KitchenAid blender that I bought at Bed Bath & Beyond a few months ago. It does well with blending smoothies and getting things nearly all pulverized. I like it a lot better than some of the other blenders that I have had in the past that didn't last very long and really didn't do a good job.

Hope this helps.

I have an old Osterizer that is going on 15 years old. It works for smoothies, ice, ice cream, and spinach. It is just an average blender but works great. I think the Costco demo is overkill for that purpose and I would worry it heats up too much. I have seen them make tomato soup and say that it is cooking from the heat of the blade.

I have a blender but I hardly use it. It's a pain to clean and I hate pouring in and out. With pureeing soups it's difficult not to burn yourself. With blending anything else, it has to be almost half empty in order for the proper mixing to occur.
A few years ago I got a Cuisinart stick blender - and I LOVE it!
The blending part rinses off easily and is dish washer safe.
I can blend right in the pitcher or in the pot. It blends hot and cold and I don't get something else dirty and with less pouring back and forth = very little scalding risk!
It's one of the best kitchen toys I own.

I just bought the Vitamix from Costco two weeks ago, and I love it. I've been eyeing it for almost a year now as I've heard nothing but rave reviews. I couldn't justify that much for a blender either especially since I already had one, but just the tapping device to shove all the stuff down when it gets stuck, makes it worthwhile for me.

It is fairly industry standard and I've seen it on a lot of cooking shows, in restaurants, and smoothie bars. The only reason it heats up is due to the fast speeds for a prolonged time frame.

My old Kitchenaid blender worked well with spinach. It was a good blender - I just replaced it because we wanted to be able to add a bigger variety of vegetables to our recipes. The ninja seemed like another good option too.

Black and Decker Crushmaster has a wonderful smoothie setting. I love it and the smoothies come out very well blended.
