I am have a joint birthday party with my sister-in-law's daughter. She wants to have it at a park. Unfortunately, I am concerned because it is suppose to be 85 degrees out and very little shade. I was suggesting at my in-laws who have a pool and we could have sprinklers and a bouncy house but anyways. Does any one have any suggestions on things we can do to make it more fun and cooler at the park? The ages range from 1 yr old to 8 yr olds. I thought about water guns but I am not sure if that is too babish for an 8yr old and I know the 1 yr olds wont be able to use them. Any good ideas of activities or suggestions would be great.

What can I do next?

Bring some of those collapsible shade canopies. They're less than $20 each at places like Bed Bath and Beyond and Walmart. Set up the food and gifts under that so people have a place to escape to. There are misting fans available if your budget allows. Keep coolers with ice and cold drinks and popsicles available. Sunscreen is an absoulte must. Bring extra for those parents who forget.

Water squirters aren't babish at all for 8 year olds, and you can find some squirters that toddlers can do, too. Water ballons are good, too-- they take a lot of time to fill up-- and be sure you pick up all of the pieces so birds and other animals don't get hurt (make it a game for the kids to pick up as many pieces as they can-- and no cake until they pick them all up!). Also, popsicles are good, too (just keep them in a cooler and they should be fine until you're ready for them

Have you checked out having Party Animalz:The Stuff & Fluff Workshop provide entertainment and have the party where ever you prefer and maybe that's still at the park or even at home. They are highly recommended and so affordable for birthday events and the kids love them because they take them home. I'd give them a call at ###-###-#### or check out the mini website www.mypartyanimalz.com. They're great to work with and they really take the cake when it comes to providing the FUN for all ages.

I found the following in an article:

The advantages of throwing your children's birthday party outside are obvious: more space, no valuables or family heirlooms to be broken, tranquil atmosphere, and less clean up. Of course weather is an important factor when planning and you should try to check the local predictions. However, some parks have pavilions that can be utilized in case of rain, and can be reserved in advance of your party. I decided to throw the party at the Germantown Municipal Park because of its central location and facilities. The park was easy to access and had bathrooms, a large pavilion, 5 free standing Grills, a small fish pond, large shady oak trees, and a playground. More information about this park and others like it in Germantown, Tn can be found at: http://www.ci.germantown.tn.us/parks.html.

Choosing a Park and Making Invitations
It is important to have your guests feeling comfortable (especially during the Summer months) so visit several parks during the hours you think of having the party to see what areas of the parks are more shady than others. Check the park facilities and restrooms to make sure they will meet your needs and those of your guests. If you want to grill your food for the party, make sure there are grills or places where you can put your own. Once you have decided in which park you will be having your party, check with your local city's Parks and Recreation office for a list of rules and regulations. Some cities require that you tell them in advance that you will be throwing a party in their park, and if you will be occupying a pavilion they may require a deposit and rental fee.

Enjoy!!!!
