We are taking our children to the aquarium on Saturday. We cannot decide whether to go to Camden or Baltimore. My husband and I have been to Baltimore but have never been to Camden. Any suggestions as to which one is better? My children are 3 and 2 y.o.
Thanks!

So What Happened?

Thank you everyone for your responses. We did decide to go to Camden and had a great day. We ended up buying a yearly membership and plan on returning again soon. We ended the long day at Dave and Busters. Thanks again!

I have been to both and i think that the one in Baltimore is much nicer. I think the one in camden is dirty and gets too crowded. After you go to the one in Baltimore you could walk around the inner harbor which is nice. It is not very safe in Camden.

Baltimore is great and there is a lot more to do there then being in Camden as you obviously can't walk around the streets there. Camden however I think has a great aquarium and a lot of interaction w/the kids. Since you've already been to Baltimore, perhaps check Camden out as we have gone there several times ourselves and do enjoy it.

We find the Camden aquarium is the perfect size for our 4 and 1 yr old. It's about a 3 hour visit with lots of interactive exhibits. The Baltimore aquarium would be too big for us and way to busy. I would consider that you are thinking about going on a hot Saturday. The Baltimore aquarium will likely be packed to the limits (remember to buy your tickets - which have an entrance time on them - ahead if you go there). Camden will likely be busy too but maybe not quite as bad. If you pick Camden, you might be better off if you go later in the afternoon (after 2) it seems to get quieter later in the day (maybe everyone is going for a nap). Also, if you have a side by side stroller, I wouldn't try to bring it. It's too difficult to navigate (I keep seeing people try to push them through with a crowd... what a nightmare). Our kids LOVE the aquarium... hope you have a great time!

Hi,
The camden aquarium is not as spectacular as baltimore. It doesn't have an wharf area to walk around once you are done at the aquarium and no dolphin show. It is closer if you live@ philadelphia and easy parking. Took our 11 and 3 year old and they loved it.

Get there right when it opens and its not crowded.

Have fun

My kids are 3 & 18mos. They love the camden aquarium so much we bought a family pass & have gone multiple times. Lots of things to do. We did the 4D theatre the last time we were there (they were showing diego). That was awesome. Both my kids loved it. I highly recommend it.
Also, it is VERY clean & safe all around the aquarium now (not like when we were kids). And you CAN walk along the waterfront now. They have a huge sidewalk along the river. You can walk all the way to the battleship NJ, which you can also tour. (We haven't done this yet, b/c we usually go to the aquarium on bad weather days, but I've heard its awesome.) We did walk along the river when they were babies & it was very nice.
I have not been to Baltimore in years. However, my parents went recently and were not thrilled with it. They said it was nice, but not as nice as they remembered.
I would go to the one that is closest to you. The less time kids spend in the car the better. I'm sure either would be great for the kids.

Camden Aquarium was a one titme kind of boring but they have improved it over the past fewyears. We took our kids there this summer, they are 2,3 and 5 and they all loved it! It has a lot of interactive exhibits that they can do and everyone walked the whole thing! Baltimore is great but as you well know its big so it might be to much for the little ones to take in in one day! Enjoy where ever you go

I have been to them both. They are quite different. Baltimore is a not for profit. They have limited funds, but I love the dolphin show. Camden is a for profit. It is much more expensive, but it is the disney of aquariums. at Camden you have many oppertunities to touch creatures the new sting ray area is just amazing. Camden also has a short movie option. If you go to Camden take the birds seriously, they really poop on people all the time. I am sure you will have a great time at either location.
Enjoy!

I haven't been to Camden so I can't compare. However, we took our twins to Baltimore when they weren't quite two. It was not a fun trip. First of all, no strollers or wagons are allowed in the aquarium so the kids have to walk the whole thing or you can lug 'em around :( If you go the Baltimore route, I suggest checking your options (I think I remember that they had backpacks to rent/borrow). Secondly, they were pretty overwhelmed by the whole thing and loved running around the waterfront more than the aquarium experience. Whichever one you choose, hope you have a great day~

Camden aquarium was amazing! The hippo exhibit itself is worth the trip! Baltimore is nice, been there a few times, but honestly, I think Camden ith it's recently redone aquarium is hands down loads better than Baltimore at this time.

I took my daughter last year, she was 18 months, and she had a blast!!! IT's big and open, so not very crowded, gave her a chance to really walk around and enjoy things without causing me to panic that she was going to get lost.

again, the hippos make this an aquarium you have to go to!! My adult sisters are hoping we can take the family again soon, since they weren't there when we went last year.

Chances are the children won't remember much about the aquarium at such young ages. So if you and hubby have already been to the one in Baltimore then go to the other. Next year go to Baltimore then the year after go to Camden. Or go to NYC's or DC's.
My kids love aquariums and we have gone every year since they were infants sometimes 3 or 4 times a year. We get family yearlong passes.

I took my little ones to Baltimore when they were 1 and 3. They were bored. I just took them to Camden this summer when they were 2 and 5. They both LOVED it. I think older kids appreciate the Baltimore Aquarium more than the little ones.
