The United Way is great resouce. United Way is an umbrella organization to other organizations that provide assistance such as bill assistance, mortgage payment and more. You can go to their web site or call.

Also, the Salvation Army will give you a grocery bag of food for free as well

Please call the bill companies and explain your situation. At least telling them the situation will enable you to work out a plan.

I would suggest you contact the utilitites company individual and ask them if they have an assistance program, if not, are they familiar with any programs. If not, contact your local county for program assitance. It might be time consuming, but yet worth it.

Hi A., I'm sorry that you are having such a hard time. Having a new baby is stressful enough without the added pressure of financial issues. Have you tried to contact the service providers? Tell them that you are having a hard time right now and they may be able to work out a payment plan with you. I've had to do that before when I lost my job. For Electric Service, I have Jackson EMC and I know that they offer grants to people in need. I'm not suure what you need to do to apply and I think you may need to be in their service area. Contact your local office of Dept. of Hum,an Resources, you might qualify for WIC or food stamps, they may also be able to help you with your utilities.

I don't really know of any organizations but you might try churches.

My MIL is a secretary at a church in Alabama and they get calls from people in situations much like yours and the church has a benevolent fund that is used to help those in need. They have an elder that is in charge of the fund and he does the background/leg work to research the situation and then makes the decision for if they help and how much they give.

If you attend church, you might try there first. If not, try ones in your immediate area first.

Hello A., I just moved back to georgia, stone mountain area, but I use to live in gwinnett, I used the saint vincent d'paul church and if you contact social services they will give the list for outreach agencies. They helped me out alot with me and my daughter. Know Iam going through divorce and stressed out, Iam seeking help myself. good luck to you
