Hi. After losing my beloved cat about 1 1/2 years ago, it is time to to have a cat (actually 2) in our family again. When I got my previous cat, 15 years ago, there weren't nearly as many kitty litter options on the market as there are now. I have always hated that dusty odor that most litters have. I'm intrigued by the commercials I have seen for Feline Pine. When it first came out, I was interested, but afraid to that a change in litter wouldn't go over well for my old, set-in-her-ways kitty. Has anyone used Feline Pine? What is it like (scent, texture, do your cats like it)? Thanks for your help!

What can I do next?

I beleive my friend use that litter and her cats hated the way it felt. She has two cats and the younger one got in the the litter, use the potty and jumped right back out. My friend likes to use fresh step, it has a good scent and not a lot of dust and clumps the pee well and cost about 7-8 dollars for a big bag. I used it once mixed with my left over tidy cat and my cats didin't seem to mind the fresh step. I never tried the pine though.

I've never tried feline pine myself, but I use the breeze system with the little pellets instead of regular litter. I love it. My daughter & father are both asthmatic & don't have any issues at all with this kind because there's no dust at all.

Hi L. ~

My sympathy on your loss, and my congratulations on preparing to open your home and heart to another kitty!

I've been a momcat for over 30 years, and I have tried just about all the litters out there. I recently discovered the best so far when I was taking care of a friend's kitties while she was on vacation. She buys it at Sam's club, where it runs about $10 for a big 40 lb tub. It's a Scoopable litter called LitterClean. I always preferred either Tidy Cat Scoop or Fresh Step Scoop, but I have changed for good now.

My friend told me that her 17 year old kitty has always had a skin disorder that appeared to be an allergic reaction to something. Over the years, they have tried different foods, different litter, and different everything. After using LitterClean, her kitty miraculously stopped having hot spots and open wounds. When they ran out and bought another brand in a pinch, the hot spots returned, only to clear up again when they bought more LitterClean.

We have one (of 3) cats who has always had a problem with throwing up before he eats. Since we started using LitterClean, that habit has nearly disappeared. I can't say for sure that it has anything to do with the litter, but I can't thin iof anything else that has changed in our routine either.

LitterClean clumps extremely well, controls odor really well, and is a bargain price. It is also not heavily perfumed, which is a huge plus for me, since I have my own allergies to heavy perfumes. We don't belong to Sam's Club, but my friend picks up litter for us now when she buys for her own kitties.

Now that I've posted my own reply, I'll be interested to read what other momcats have to say. ;-)

I also use the Arm and Hammer Multi Cat. We keep it in the basement which help with odor. It does do a good job of odor control though. I also have not noticed much of a dusty issue. Good luck with your new kitty! Kitties are such great companions!

We use Fresh Step and she goes in it well.
The dog likes eating it too. :-P I agree with Carrie B. I bought the wrong kind once and she didn't care for it so I had to mix it when we tried to use it again. It didn't clump well or aleast didn't come out of the litter box in one clump. I have been told our house is the only kitty house they have been in that doesn't stink. What a compliment.

I have used Feline Pine once. My kitty took right to it, she is never picky about what kind of litter I use but I didn't care for it. It did seem to have a mild pine scent to me but not that noticeable. I didn't feel that it was absorbent enough. When my kitty went to cover up the litter scattered everywhere (of course all litter does) but I found it to be more of a problem with this stuff. It was larger pellets and was difficult for me to vaccume. I have tried Yesterdays News, which is recycled old newspapers and at the moment that is my favortie litter. It is very absorbent, seems to keep the odor down and it doesn't scatter too badly but when it does scatter it is easy to sweep with a broom or vacuume.

I haven't used Feline Pine but have used ExquisiCat Pine Litter. (as well as just about all other cat litters - I foster cats/kittens) It doesn't smell like Pine... it almost smells like ground up corn litter. I can say I have never noticed an amonia smell from the litter box when using that brand with the pine. However, it does give off it's own smell that can be quite strong. I think you'd just have to give it a try to see if you mind the smell or not. I, personally, after using many litters, prefer the regular stuff. The cats never seem to care which litter I have for them.

After fostering kittens over the years, I will only use Fresh Step - the scoopable kind. It's the only litter I've ever found that doesn't leave an odor and it scoops the best!

I have always used Arm and Hammer Mulit Cat. My cats have issues when I don't clean it out everyday. I think the issues w/odor from the litter box comes from how often you clean it. I've never used anything else.

My cat box is in my laundry room next to my kitchen. I switched to Feline Pine a few months ago. I got fed up with all the gray litter getting tracked everywhere! I used Arm and Hammer usually, sometimes Tidy Cats in the past. My box is big and hooded & the Feline Pine will end up out of the box a little but at least if I walk past barefoot it's not that nasty gray litter stuck on my feet! It's unused pellets. I find it a lot easier to deal with b/c you only scoop the bm's. not the pee. I freshen it with a few scoops of clean litter every few days and remove the bm's daily. It does not get too stinky and honestly people are surprised to hear I even have a cat. I use liners in the box and chuck it all about every 2 weeks. I would recommend it and my cat has done well with it.
