Advice on When to Cut Son's Hair

I know this may be a stupid question, but I am wondering if anyone has any pros/cons to share about their first hair cut. My son's hair is getting in his eyes, so I think it's time, but I'm worried that he won't look like a little baby after his cut! His first birthday is the end of the month, and I don't want him to look completely grown up just yet! Any feedback would be greatly appreciated :)

What can I do next?

That is a great question :) I, also, did not want to get my son's hair cut because I thought he wouldn't look like a little baby. Looking back at the pictures, I wish I had gotten it cut. He has very fine, very blonde hair and it looked kind of messy (not horrible, but it would have been better if it had been trimmed at least a little). I didn't realize how long it was until I saw the pictures. If I could do it again, I would have his hair trimmed just to make it look neater.

I have two little boys about to be 17 months in a few days. We decided to go for their first hair cuts just after their 1st birthdays. My friend's said no don't do it, they won't look like babies anymore. We did it anyway and they looked so handsome, like little men. All my friends thought they looked much better all trimmed up instead of crazy stuff flying all over the place. Both my guys did good sitting in my lap, they weren't afraid of the clippers at all. They got a #2 on the back and sides and scissor cut on top. Very handsome little guys if I say so myself!!! :-)

My SIL is a hair dresser and did our ds' first cut at about 18 months. I didn't want to see the curls go, but he was getting a rat tail / mullet looking hair do. He also had sweet curls. Her advice for babes with fine hair or curls like that is to NOT use clippers but opt for a razor cut or sissor cut instead. It looks softer and more natural and is less upkeep. What she did was take little sections of his hair, twirl them and then use the razor. He still had some curls but it looked much neater. I've since gotten his hair cut at one of those kids places and specifically requested they use scissors and it worked out fine.

It's not a stupid question at all. In fact I didn't really think about till it was too late. My firstt son did lose that baby look with his first hair cut which was about a wwk after he turned one. He looks mature anyway, 97% percentail for height and weight. But we are African American and I must say he did look better with the hair cut b/c his hair looked like Don King! With my second son, he had a different hair texture with very soft loose curls. I agreed to have his hair cut at 12 months, but it wasn't cut as low as my first son's. It was more of a nice trim. He retained his baby look, which made me very happy.
