I bought a little books of crafts (although you can find ideas on the internet) that you can use to make cool things out of milk cartons and egg cartons and construction paper. I put it all in a basket with paint and glue and things like that, and we do a project or two every week.

you might try baby sign language videos. my son lvoed them. he loved watching the other kids in the videos and it was something we could do together and use throughout the day. his favorite videos were called Signing Time. you'd have to order them from the internet though at www.signingtime.com . little ones have fun with musical instrument too, even at 8 months, just find things like maracas or tamborines that are easy to shake and turn on a toddler cd. just have fun with it. good luck!

They require so little at 8 mos! Fun age!
Just playing with her on her level on the floor, give her some soft but larger balls and have her put them in a bucket, toys that make music was a favorite of my kids. Silly faces, funny songs and just having her there is what they love most. Patty cake, itsy bitsy spider too.
Give her some plastic tupperware and spoons to bang on them with! :) My kids LOVED dixie cups (still do and they are 3 1/2 and 6) and we stacked them, then blew them over, they would giggle forever with that. I am so happy to hear you 6 year old is doing so well! Yeah!!!!!

lots of fun action songs:
Insy winsy spider
wheels on the bus
round and round the garden
pat-a cake
clap-a hands for Daddy
5 little monkeys
5 little ducks, etc.
There are tons of songs for children. I sang one particular song (among others) to my almost 2 year old each night before bed, and one night, she surprised me and started singing along with me for the first time! What a fun moment. Babies are so smart! Have Fun!!

If you havn't already started you might enjoy teaching her some baby sign... it will help her communicate and can be a game between the two of you. You can get books at the library that will show you how to do it and which signs are good to start out with. We really enjoyed that our daughter could "talk" to us at 9 months. Good luck

Eight month old babies love music (singing, banging "dancing"), cardboard books with colorful pictures, "dropping" games (when baby drops something for you to pick up - over and over!), and old stand by games such as peek-a-boo, so big and pat-a-cake. Mirror play is exciting for baby, too. There are many cause & effect toys on the market where baby pushes a button, touches something or bangs on something, then something happens (lights, sounds, colors, etc). Taking things in and out of boxes, bowls, drawers, etc. are also fun for baby. My 8 month old granddaughter loves almost any play activities as long as I play with her. Check in your community for parent-child playgroups or activities for babies at the library or local rec center. Have fun!

My 13 month old really enjoys playing with rice... I had a large food storage can of it expire, so I put a blanket down(makes for easier clean up) in the bathtub. Then I dumped 1/2 the rice into a large bowl along with plenty of cups, spoons, etc. and let him go to town. It's pretty much a clean version of a sandbox.

Hi A.,
If you live in Montrose you could visit the Climbing Tree Children's Museum. Tons of fun for the kids! And if you cant afford the entry fee or the yearly memebership fee of 95.00 (which I cant), you can always offer to volunteer. Thats what I do. I volunteer 2x a month, 3 hours each time and you can take the kids! They are always looking for help. Give it a shot I promise you'll love it. They are located on N 1st I believe, where the old Gigi Anns used to be. Good luck
