Does anyone know where I can go to send in gently used clothes and possibly buy some as well? All the places I've looked at have really worn items or you have to make an appointment before you can go in and drop off your clothes. I don't have that kind of time or flexibility with a now-5 year old. Thanks!
Thanks all for your responses! I tried Wear It Once, Wear It Twice. I was told only after I got there that I needed an appointment to bring my things in. It was awful! I had just wrangled my 5 year old, along with all the clothes I wanted to bring in, only to be met by a not-so-pleasant person who told me I needed an appt. Ugh. Not doing that again. I did try www.Zearly.com and that was MUCH better. I didn't even have to leave my house! I signed up, they sent me this huge shipping bag and I was able to stuff everything I wanted to send away into it. Then they even had it picked for me. I was credited my points and I've already used them to buy a few more things for my daughter and even bought quite a few great looking outfits several friends and my sister who just had a baby boy. I HIGHLY recommend using them. I wish everything could be this easy. Thanks again!
I've been looking for something like this as well. I'm not much of a yard sale person so I'd love to find a way for me to unload all the unworn kids clothes I have sitting in my closet too.
I don't know of a store front but if you're looking to just get rid of the items I have used freecycle before. I'm guessing that might not be what you're looking for.

There's this awesome place in Burbank called "Wear it Once, Wear it Twice". they sell stuff from newborn to size 8 and they also buy clothes/ furniture, toys, etc.
The staff is very friendly and the items they sell are like new and the prices are extremely reasonable.
The quality of everything they sell is much better and cleaner than Good Will or Salvation Army.
It's definately worth checking out if you dont mind the drive from Reseda. =)
Yea it's called the Salvation Army or GoodWill. My parents didn't have a lot of money with my sister and I when we were growing up. So we got clothes from GoodWill mostly. you can also sell the clothes there, I know they used to give you cash but not sure how they do it anymore. I think now they give you store credit plus you can take the clothes off in taxes at the end of the year.
You can buy and sell boxloads of clothes on Ebay.
Definitely Wear it Once, Wear it Twice in Burbank! I've taken clothes & shoes to them many times. They will give you cash on the spot, or a store credit worth even more than the cash. Your choice.
They only take my very best stuff, and it shows on their racks. They have a sale a few times a year where you can fill a plastic shopping bag for only $10!! I got a new school wardrobe for both my girls for only $30. You're never gonna beat that.

I found a great on-line store where I send all my stuff. www.zearly.com. Really worth checking out if you are busy like me. I've got 4 year old twins, so getting them out the door is a pain. This place picks up your stuff for free with UPS and gives you points to buy other stuff on the site. I LOVE not having to leave my house, and I can do it all while they are asleep.
If you want better quality than you'll find at some thrift stores, try looking up "consignment stores" in your area. Those are the ones that often ask for an appointment, but they do it to ensure that they see your clothes and that the clothes meet their standards for good condition -- so if you want to sell there (and get more money for the clothes you sell), you may need to find a way to deal with the appointments. That's just how they ensure that the clothes are in better shape that what gets just dropped off in bags at thrift stores. Some thrift stores have very good clothes but you have to have time to hunt for them, and most things around here that are called "thift" stores don't pay anyone for clothing donations. I haven't ever bought or sold clothes online but it sounds like if you did that, how would you have any idea of the real condition of the clothes you were buying?
You can also try Craig's List. I'm not in your area but people sell a "lot" of a certain size of clothing and price it how they want. You can sometimes find a big set of gently used clothes for like $30-$40 and you would be set for the entire season.
Are there any consignment sales in your area? That is one of the best ways to sell your clothes for top dollar and to buy some cheap. Typically when you sell at such an event you are also entitled to benefits such as shopping before the public.
Thrift stores really vary from area to area and store to store. You kind of have to shop around until you find the one that cliques with you. Some even have sale days when different things are 1/2 off. You can really snag a bargain.
