Depends on the store really. Usually if there is a difference it's in height, not weight. A 4 is going to be a little longer then the 4T. Most of the time I don't find a difference though.
Hello Everyone,
I wanted to know if there's a big size difference between a 4T and a regular size 4? Thank you in advance.

Longer and less diaper room!
This transition and the whole 5T xs, 6/ 6x thing drives me batty. It wouldn't be so bad if they still went by weight and height.
I actually was going to respond that it seemed like there was a big difference between 4T and 4, I thought i remembered 4 being more equivalent to a 5T. but it probably all does come down to lenghth and of course what brand it is.
Shoe sizes confuse the heck out of me too.
When my kids were little the difference was 4t left room for a diaper where 4 did not.
There's about 1-1 1/2" extra in the length of a 4 than there is in the 4T. The 4T also has a bigger butt area. I just went through this a few months ago with my niece.
length. 4 is about an inch longer if I remember right.
No, there is not a big difference.
The length, is longer in a 4.
Not by a lot.
Just a smidge.
i am glad i'm not the only one! we are now on the 5t/xs issue. basically the same fyi....from what i can tell!
Length. The shirts are longer in length and sleeve length. Pants are longer in the legs.
My little guy is 3 and he wears a size 4 or xs. 4t is too short for him.
A regular 4 is longer and available in a slim in some stores.
It truly varies by brand, but generally a 4T or anything "Toddler" will have a bit different shape, usually wider and shorter. I'm not sure why companies started coming out with the XS size of 4/5. You pay more, generally, for these as the price jumps from toddler to little boy sizes, they just offer different lines and patterns and such. All of my kids vary so much in shape and size that when they got to that line between toddler and little kids I would just check both department for prices and sizing and went from there.

Toddler sized clothes are sized to fit toddlers, kids a bit more chubby, room for a pullup/diaper, and a lot of room so they can move around on the floor while playing. They tend to have more infantile styles/decorations. For example, you won't hardly catch a pre-schooler wearing bunnies or baby sheep on their shirts when the regular sizes have Buzz Lightyear and Barbie on them.
A 4 is usually narrower, a bit longer in the length and more decorated to appeal to the pre-schooler age child. Pre-schoolers are up off the floor more, running playing ball, chasing their friends, etc....They don't need the roomier fit.
Ditto Denise!!! Longer with less diaper room which sucks for me b/c my 3 year old is still in a pull up but is very tall, so they squeeze her waist and booty and the 4t are too short. :(
4T is a toddler size 4 where as a 4 is equivalent to a boys small or extra small. It probably will be the difference in the length of the torso in a shirt whereas in the pants the legs will be longer in pants.
I always found the difference to be big.... especially in pants. You don't want to "skip" the 4t size that is for sure. It is just weird to me that they do this!!
