Hi Moms,

My daughter had a stomach bug on Thursday. She was running fever and threw up twice. I took her to the doc and they gave her zofran and after that she was fine. She has been fine since then, but this morning she has thrown up 3 times in one hour. She had some left over zofran so I gave her that and she threw it up 5 min later. Could she have caught the same bug again or is this normal? I disinfected my house really well so I don't know whats going on. I put a call into the nurse but she hasn't called back. Any suggestions?

What can I do next?

Zofran is REALLY good at keeping nausea at bay. If she threw that up I would be a little worried, unless maybe it just wasn't really in her system yet. I would guess that she probably either caught something else or ate something that didn't agree with her but can be hard to tell. 3 times in an hour is quite a bit. I would be calling the nurse again. If the vomiting continues like that and no one calls back I might think about an urgent care.

Give her a piece of cinnamon toast or a bowl of applesauce with cinnamon sugar. It has to be real cinnamon but it works great on tummy troubles.

My 3 year old went through this about a month ago. It lasted so long that she got dangerously dehydrated at one point. The doctor said it's most likely the Norovirus going aroud (the cruise ship virus). I would think she was in the clear, she'd be eating, running around, acting like normal and then wake up in the middle of the night throwing up 2 days later. It was the most frustrating thing ever and lasted about 5 days for us. Some last up to 10!! I hope this isn't the case for you. Every time she throws up, do the same old thing...no fluids until she hasn't thrown up for more than an hour. Then, introduce 1 tsp of water/pedialyte every 15 minutes. Use the zofran too! Did they give her the dissolving kind, hopefully? I asked why she would seem fine one day and then sick the next, and apparently it's just how the virus moves through the body. Weird. Anyway, she's over and it and no one else got it. Phew. Keep your sink full of diluted bleach and water and sanitize all day long! Lastly, it's possible she has caught a second virus or ate something too fatty or with too much fiber that has upset her still sensitive digestive track. Keep it bland for longer than you think you would need to. No milk products either!! That's a big one. It's not possible to catch the same bug that she just had. It's still moving through her system, GI related or a totally separate virus.

I'd guess she caught another bug. Definitely give the nurse another call. I wouldn't offer her any food, just tea, with chamomile perhaps. You want to keep her hydrated while this passes. Good luck!
