Hi mamas, my five yr old son is sick. Just over two weeks ago he got what I thought was a stomach bug for 24hrs and then was fine next dAy. Whole next wk was fine. Then it happened again. Vomited in middle of nighits and next morning, then by next night was good.then it happened agin last thurs. into fri. This time took him. To dr. Who looked him over ordered lots of bloodwork and wanted to see him next morning. So we did. By that time He was still iffy but a little better. By sat. Nite was fine agin. Acting normal, normal appetite, but did say Couple of times after eating his tummy hurt a little but then brushed it off and went about playing and acting normal. bloodwork dr. Said all came back fine but the number they look At for food allergy was slightly elevated so to keep a food diary and schedule a follow up for this Friday. Sunday he was great and Monday too, then3:30 am woke up vomiting again. Into this morning with one instance of diarrhea. Vomited 4 times in all today and laid sick complaining his head hurt and his tummy hurt. Now I know nothing about food Allergies. But I am worried this isn't one,(there has been nothing new or out of the ordinary in his diet) but I don't think it's. virus either he has no fever over 99. I am starting to be worried sick and Am not sure what to think. Or what else to ask dr. To test for. Can anyone please offer advice? I would be so grateful!

What can I do next?

My son began vomitting and I just assumed it was the stomach bug or the flu type of thing.

He was vomitting nightly, but seemed a bit better in the morning.
I took him to the doctor who immediately diagnosed him with acid reflux.
He gave him some medication to take, suggested that I elevate his head while sleeping.

The vomitting stopped immediately.

He still sleeps on a sope.

It works wonderfully for him. The reflux doesn't have a chance to get get clogged in his throat, which leads to coughing, which leads to vomitting.

He hasn't taken the medication in years. He's learned not to eat certain things after a certain hour in the evening and he keeps his upper body elevated. The vomitting has stopped completely.

Now, when he throws up, I know it's the flu or some type of bug. We dealt with the other thing.

I would talk to the doctor about the possibility of reflux. Many children deal with it.

The medication they gave my son was like a miracle life changer.

In the meantime, elevate the head of his bed and use pillows to keep his upper part elevated. It might really make a difference.

Best wishes.

Since you have been to the doctor...I am sure he/she would have caught this, but, that is what my son did when he was constipated beyond constipated...his bowels were backed up that we saw feet of stool backed up in his intestines on the x-ray.

But he threw up every couple of days for about a week, then started a low grade fever (99 - 99.7), then started complaining of stomach pain...we were all thinking an appendicitis...but it was extreme constipation. AND he was still having bowel movements, soft ones, they were just slipping around the hard stool..

Let us know what they diagnose...

When my daughter was 9 she had 4 stomach viruses in 3 months. The first virus lasted 11 days. The docs did stool cultures and it was normal. The next 3 viuses lasted 2-3 days. We had an appointment to see a GI doc but when her symptoms went away her pediatrician said to cancel the appointment. FYI... My daughter never had a fever.
I think your son has a virus especially since he now has a headache. He just sounds sick but nothing to be alarmed about. Quite frankly, I am really surprised your doctor ordered blood work for this. What were they checking him for?

Also, my pediatrician didn't even want my daughter to come into the office. I insisted she be seen on day 9 of what turned out to be a virus but I had just never heard of a virus lasting that long. Isn't it usually a 24 hour bug?

My son was vomitting at night, fine next day- normal eating and activity level, that night major vomitting again, next day fine, this happened for a week, by 4th day went to doc who said it was stomach virus and stop feeding him normal food just cause he seems better and NO water when vomitting (makes them vomit more), so we tried bland diet and in bed resting as much as possible even though each day he perked up fine, basically let the virus run it's course and didn't make it worse by letting him eat/behave normally each day just cause he thought he was ok, can't trust kids opinions- they think they're fine but arent quite well enough yet, it was over a few dys later. Never saw a child bounce back so fantastic every day yet so sick every night, I think I was making it worse by putting too much normal food into his tummy and letting him run around like normal each day, probably would've been shorter if I made him rest more in the beginning. Same son also has stomach sensitivity to stomach acid, can't let his stomach get empty or he'll vomit, especially has to have snack before bed or will wake up empty stomach and vomit. I agree w/other comment that new virus' can hit them over and over in short period of time. I see it in my family of 8, when one virus has gone through last person another virus hits, some have different virus at same time, you see it happen enough you can tell it's something new/different. Best of luck!

There actually is no such thing as a 24 hr bug, its a mild case of food poisoning. It could also be a food allergy. I would put him on the BRAT diet for a few days, which means only bland foods that you know wont make him sick, like bananas, rice, applesauce, toast and slowly start adding foods back in. It could be his stomach was really upset from whatever he ate that made him sick, and just needs some time to kind of heal up.

There are stomach flu bugs taht last 24 hours.. there are stomach flu bugs taht last many days..

I would absolutely do the food diary... take notes of what he is eating... see if you can figure out iof there is a food trigger to all of this.
I would also do a bland diet for at least a week. anything starchy,, bread pasta, apples bananas.. normal kid stuff paenut butter and jelly. chicken lean meat.. no grease no spice.. I do not give my kids milk when they have stomach issues.. mostly cause cleaning up vomit with milk is horrible.

Is your child in school?
Are there kids getting sick there?
At my kids school, recently, there were stomach sicknesses going around.
All variations.
Not all had fevers.
Fever or not, does not itself denote a virus or bug.
A kid can be sick and have no fever.
And, there can also be, back to back, illnesses, but of a different virus.
My son got sick once, for awhile, back to back sick seemingly, and the Pediatrician said, it was a different virus.
And it was not a relapse.
But the symptoms were very similar.

To me, it does not sound like a food allergy.
