It really is ok- almost all babies do that eventually. It hurts, so they learn not to do it again. And there are very few one-eyed people walking around, so not many injure themselves seriously.
Hi,
My 4 month old daughter stuck her finger in her eye last night, looks like it was in the corner. She was hysterical for a few minutes and then calmed down. I noticed that it was red in the corner and now there is a small white bump on the white of her eye where she injured it. I have a doctors appt anyway tomorrow, so I will show her, yet I am really concerned. Anyone experience this?
Thanks!
Thanks for your responses! Took the baby to the ped this morning for a well check and she did the test to see if her cornea was scratched. Luckily it was not, yet the ped did say that next time this happens to bring her in right away as if it was a corneal abrasion then it has to be treated right away. She gave a prescription for antibiotic eye drops.

Well, at least she didn't poke her cornea....is there a 24 hr nurse line you can call? (Look on your insurance card.) Most likely she's just fine but moms worry and it might make you feel better to talk to the nurse. Good luck!
I promise if your daughter hurt her eye you would know. If she's not complaining or rubbing it constantly then it is fine.
A year ago I jammed the corner of a magazine into my eye, tearing my cornea. That is the most horrendous pain I have ever felt. It was worse than labor, child birth, the kidney surgery I had, or all of them combined. For two days I literally could not open my eye without nearly passing out from pain. The pain is simply too much to ignore and you would have no doubt if there was damage.
The good news is that the eye heals very quickly. That bump will most likely be gone in a week, and not result in any vision loss. Even as bad as my eye injury was I was fine in about 10 days. And I don't have vision loss either.
