Hi Moms! I'm at home with my 2 little ones 24 and 12 months, the other is at school. Anyways Im pretty sure i scratched my cornea. I wear contacts, but we were all playing outside in the windy weather Sunday. Everything was finenwhen I went to bed but I woke up to my eye glued shut but water streaming out. I can barely open my eye, extremely sensitive to light. I can't drive at all, I drove my daughter down the street to school and I can barely keep either eye open!! So at home with 2 young ones while hubby's at work so I can't really make it to the eye doc right now. Is there anything else I can do?? I'm flushing with saline solution and alternating between eyepatch and sunglasses all day. I have one -8.0 contact in and no up to date glasses. Im taking Advil for pain, but man this is no fun at all! I just want to lay down with a pillow over my eyes all day but can't really do that. Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated!

What can I do next?

I've had a scratched cornea. SOOOOO PAINFUL, I know!

No contacts! Not for a week or two!

I needed Rx pain meds the pain was SO intense.
(Next to childbirth, clearly the most pain I have ever experienced.)

Please go the the dr or the ER. They have those numbing drops that are INSTANT pain relief. You might need an antibiotic too.

Guess what scratched mine? A contact lens. (No more B&L contacts for me!)

I did that last fall. I couldn't get into my eye dr. so I went to my regular dr. I got some antibiotic eye drops and an order of no contacts for 5 days. After 2 days it felt soooo much better. You need to get to some kind of dr. right away.

I think my contact did this to me before - luckily (and unbelievably!) I had an eye dr appointment already scheduled for later in the day it happened. He said not to wear my contacts for 24 hrs (as if I could even get it in) and it would heal itself. If it's still bothering you tomorrow I'd get into the dr.

You need to go to an urgent care clinic if you can't get to the eye doc during the day. Do you have a Rosin Eye Clinic around? Look them up and call and ask if they have night hours. You need eye drops for a scratched cornea - your cornea is too important to let go. Also, if you want to be able to continue wearing contacts, this needs to be addressed too. You don't want to doom yourself to wearing glasses for the rest of your days because you didn't go get help when this started - one eye injury can render you unable to wear contacts.

Good luck.

Well I am no doctor, but can tell you that eyes heal incredibly fast usually.

I burned my entire cornea with a curling iron many years ago (aobut 20 now I guess). OMG talk about clutzy! I was curling my bangs under, hair got stuck in the iron and I pulled, which reflexes warrant you hand pulling out then going right back to the start position with force! This resulted in the curling iron going right into my eye ball!

OMG the pain! I had to go to the ER, they numbed my eye so I could even open it and get it examined. I had to use a patch for a few days (opening and closing it can cause more damage with scratching), then it was all fine. Having no depth perception stinks tho! I ran into all sorts of stuff and had the shins and knees of a toddler (all bruised!). I could not drive and was given something mild for pain for those 3 days or so.

I was just fine after that. I have never worn contacts and only now wear glasses to assist with reading (when I remember and decide its bad enough..I hate them on my face...ugh)

You might want to consider getting them checked to be sure, but hopefully it will all be fine. I sure would NOT drive easpecially with kids in the car! Be careful!!

I scratched mine and taped my eyelid closed with a bandaid! It hurt so badly to accidentally open it, so I took care of that! It happened in the evening time & I slept with that bandaid on & when I woke up it felt so much better!! Hope you feel better soon

I did this once too and think it took a few days to heal, during which I either wore glasses or just one contact. And used eye drops. But I went to the eye doctor, you don't want to mess with your eyesight!

We had a kitten that scratched my daughter's cornea. Went to the Dr where she was given antibiotic drops and it healed on its own.

Be really careful of infection. Your vision isn't something to mess around with. Can you call a friend to drive you to the doctor?

dont wear contacts
I'd try to get to the Dr w/ the kids-he can get you antibiotic drops-a scarred cornea can lead to blindness.

Hi, sounds painful. Don't put it off. My 6-year-old daughter scratched her eye and we didn't know it. She happened to have flu at the time and I thought that was why she was sensitive to light. After a couple days I finally took her to the eye doctor and he said she had to have scratched it because he could see it. So we had to put all these drops in her eyes and go back and forth to the opthamologist for the next month. She has a little scar on her eye now. You can't really see it but it's there. Don't wait.

Been there... my daughter caught my eyeball with a razor sharp nail when she was a baby. You MUST get to an eye doctor. they'll put some antibiotic ointment in it a probably make you wear a patch for a couple of days. They can also put a numbing topical solution in it that will give you instant pain relief... (ahhhhhhh!) Don't let it go, an infection could develop and lead to permanent vision loss!

This happened to me several years ago! I worked outside on the beach and a single grain of sand got caught under my contact. When I took out my contact I ripped half my cornea! SO painful! Go see an eye doctor if you can. I went when this happened to me and he gave me some drops.
