Hi, I am a SAHM of a 3 yr old and a one yr old and am 5 months pregnant with my third child. My question is my three year old recently started peeing on her bedroom floor durng nap time and bed time. she goes potty before she goes to bed and we tell her if she has to go just yell or come down. How do we deal with this without being insensitive about how or what shes feeling or going through?

What can I do next?

It sounds like she's probably not fully able to control her bladder yet. I'm guessing she's sensing she needs to go while sleeping, but not able to get to the potty fast enough.

Maybe put a potty chair in her room where she can get to it quickly, and be patient. It might be too soon for this...but check with your pediatrician about a special alarm that attaches to underwear, to alert heavy sleepers as soon as they begin to go to the bathroom so they can get up before having an accident.

What about putting a potty chair in her room during naptime/bedtime? She may not be aware soon enough to get out of bed, down the stairs, and to the bathroom before she has to go so a potty chair in her room might help until she's able to wake up better when she has to go. Just a thought!

Most 3 year-olds don't know when they have to go. Or if they do, it's with very little notice. It is definitely early for her to "come down" when she needs to go potty. If you know generally how long she naps, be ready to go get her and help her to the potty immediately when she wakes up.

Can you just put a potty chair in her room? My kids went through being scared at night to walk to the bathroom even though it was right next to the bedroom and had a night light in there. They would need me to come walk with them. So after a while of being woken up everynight to help them, I put the potty chair right next to the bed so they could go and get right back in bed. better than the floor, anyway.

put a potty chair in her room next to her bed. when kids are sleeping they can get disoriented, and she is probably still learning. She wont think to yell because she is distracted by her potty experience. Take the pressure off. It takes a while for kids to wake up and traveling to the potty down stairs or out of her room might seem scary.
If you put the chair in her room, then move it outside the door after she gets the hang of it, and then maybe at the bottom of the stairs... it will give her a chance to succeed and grow at the same time.
good luck. you've got your hands full.

Hi there, I have a 2 year old named Riley. We are in between potty training her, this month Mills fleet farm came out with the toys for Christmas well she's picked a couple things out. My husband made a deal with her that if she uses her potty and can work at going number 2 on the big girl potty that we will take her to get her toy. She has now been going number 1 alot and has yet to go the other but it's a start. She knows that there is a prize in store so she is really trying hard. you may want to try that??
