My daughter is turning three next week and wants a princess themed party. I need ideas on WHAT to do at the party. Is she too young for a bounce house? We will only have 5 other children. Is there a group that will dress up as a princess to make an appearance? Where can I find a princess cake? Thank you all in advance for your assistance!

What can I do next?

Hi J.,

These are all great ideas. I have a tea room is McKinney, Alice's Tea Shoppe (I recently closed down lunches and only doing teas, special events, showers, luncheons, catering, etc.) We do many little tea parties and princess parties for small children. There is no limit to how many children or cost for the space. We keep the cost around $12.50 per child. This includes their lunch, cake (which they really enjoy creating), goodie bags and a craft. Again, the children love to create their own party. We recently had a 2 princess parties this last weekend, and have another one coming up on June 20th. Parents are welcome to decorate the room as well. If you have more questions, please contact us at ###-###-#### We are not on the square, we are located on the other side of Lousiana (Highway 5) and have parking available on site.

We did an absolutely precious princess party for my daughter when she was 4. I got small pink gift bags for the "goodie bags" and made name tags to attach to each one, with each girl's name written in silver ink (raided my scrapbooking supplies for that). I set these out in the entry way. I hit the dollar store for bead necklaces and other jewelry (enough for each girl to have a necklace, bracelet and a ring), and got princess stickers and lip gloss, and a couple of bottles of sparkly nail polish -- the kind that dries in 60 seconds. We decorated the table with pink fabric (very inexpensive to get a couple yards of fabric), and put lots of pink streamers all around. I got a slightly different piece of pink fabric to cover the "chair of honor" at the table (for the birthday girl!). Then I got enough pink ribbon to tie a bow around each chair. We didn't use balloons, but pink and white balloons would be cute too.
I've seen princess cakes at Target. My cousin does custom cakes so we had her make this one, but, had I known Target made them, I would have saved her the trouble!
The girls all arrive in their princess gowns and brought their goodie bags full of jewelrey to the table for their "princess makeover" -- the girls put their jewelry on, and me and another mom went around applying nail polish, lip gloss, and a little powder. You can have a princess coloring page out for them to keep busy while they wait their turn for nail polish, etc. After they got everything on we played a game -- "pass the slipper" which is basically like hot potato, but you use one of those plastic princess slippers that little girls dress up in. Then we did a craft. They decorated picture frames (you can get a kit for this at Michael's or Hobby Lobby). We took each girl's picture in her princess gown in front of a beautiful back drop (you can use anything for the backdrop -- more pink fabric with pink feather boa as trim, etc.), and printed those out while they finished their craft and had dancing time. You could video the girls dancing then pop your recording right into the video player so they can watch it while you set the table for cake. They eat cake and princess punch (something with strawberry in it, or raspberry lemonade!), slip their photos in their frames, make sure they have all of their jewelry either on or collected in their goodie bags, and they're done!

I have a 3 year old and she loves bounce houses! I don't think she's too young. I think you can get a princess cake at Tom Thumb. If you have an idea of what you want it to look like, any grocery store will copy the picture and make one.

She is definitely not too young for a bounce house! I just had one at my house for a group of different aged kids and my 3 year old are her 2 year old cousins had the best time. They have pink castle shaped ones too.

Tom Thumb makes a Disney princess castle cake. Or you can find instructions on how to make your own at familyfun.com. Look in the back of Dallas Child magazine (free) for an ad for a princess to make an appearance. It seems I've seen one there. Look online at Oriental Trading for inexpensive princess activities - crowns to decorate, sticker pages, etc.

Have each girl come dressed as a princess. I'm sure at that age they've got some dress up clothes to wear. Good luck! She will love it.

Hi J.,

I do stuff you own plush animal parties, and we have a princess theme party. If you look on my website, you can see. I am similar to the place in the mall where you make your own stuffed animals, but I bring all the fun and supplies to your home. Check it out; it is a blast, and the girlies get to take home an animal dressed up like a princess.

I did a Princess PArty last year for my 3 yr old. It turned out great!! It was also at home. Here is what we did:

Guests were invited to come in their favorite dress up outfit. We met them at the door with plastic necklaces, bracelts, rings, hats, and extra outfits in case someone forgot one, etc. We also had a little vanity table where they could put on body and hair glitter. They loved this.

Games we played were:
1. Pass the glass slipper (any dress up shoe will work). Variation on Hot Potato. They each got a prize as they got out of the cirlce.

2. Sleeping Princesses - sit in a cirlce. Pass a "spindle" round and prick your finger to fall asleep. We used a mixing spoon as the spindle. Each child then lays on the floor asleep. A prince (daddy in this case - wearing a crown) came around and tapped each girl on the shoulder and woke her up by handing her a Hershey's kiss chocolate. Fun, easy and they thought it was great.

3. Instead of a bounce house we had a princess tent someone gave us. We used that to just play in.

4. Coloring pages. I printed out free printables from the web that were princess themed and had a craft table for them to color.

5. Make your own crown - Hobby Lobby has foam crowns you can buy and decorate. They also loved this.

Hope this helps! Good luck.

For my daughter's 5th birthday we rented a dress up trunk from www.simplypretend.com. We did a tea party theme and the girls dressed up in fancy clothes. She has lots of different trunk themes and several of them include princesses. All the girls left saying they wanted to do that for their next party, so it was a hit. She sells party favors that match your theme for really cheap as well. I think ours were $3.50 each which was a lot less than I would have spent doing it myself. She also sent extras in case you have extra guests and she only charges you for the favors you use. She gives step by step instructions for games and activities. It was perfect. She also had recommendations for cakes and other things, but we didn't use those.

I did a Princess birthday for my 3 year old daughter. I made a castle cake (Family Fun website) it was fairly easy. In the invitation I told the kids to dress up if they wanted to and pretty much all of the kids had at least one nice dress that made them feel like a princess - it was a success! I had a couple of dresses handy for those kids that didnt have any dress up clothes and I didnt do a lot of games or anything - just let the kids play dress up with a bunch of old costume jewelry and beads - it was enough to keep the girls having fun for a while. I even had a few of her cousins come dressed as knights - it was too cute!
For favors I bought little pink cardboard purses (Michaels) that were too adorable.
The party itself didnt cost much and the kids loved it!
