Did a princess party for my daughter this past August. Had the kids wear their "best" dresses (princess dress up) but I also had out all of my girls dress up clothes, hung up on a lamp (coat rack) in the room - girls were able to change up their dresses when they wanted. Then we had different "stations" - I had a craft table to make a tiara (foam - can get at michaels) with stickers to decorate. Then a make-up (and hair??) station. using my girls' vanity table. and another station for doing nails. After the girls were beautified.. we played musical chairs at the royal ball... then it was cake time. (I found cool princess cups (goblets) and the girls could have a drink in them or an ice cream float.. but I took some of those and created the "party favor" with it. The cup and other little things from the dollar store put in it. After cake it was outside to run off the sugar and play on the swing set as parents arrived to pick up their princesses. Done and easy! GOOD LUCK and enjoy!

I did a princess party for my dd and we used lots of pink balloons and streamers to decorate the food table and main party room. I found lots of games and food ideas online and my favorite free princess party guide was this one:

i didnt even read the other responses, but i know of the CUTEST idea for a cake! go buy a cheap, dollar store barbie... make a 2 layer round cake, and cut a circle out of the middle... stick barbie in, frost it, and BAM! THE CAKE IS HER DRESS! ive done that for my 5 year old, and for my three year old i made a sheet cake, and put little my little ponies on it (the icing was green with those little sugar flowers, so it looked like ponies in a pasture). it looks cute, and the kids love licking the icing off the bottom of the toys when its time to eat! PLUS they get a silly toy out of it. GOOD LUCK AND HAVE FUN!

HI D., Im in the same boat. My daughter will turn 4 on April 8th and Im doing a princess theme. Im not going all out or anything. I will decorate a bit w/ princess stuff, and have a princess cake of some sort and I asked the little girls to bring or wear their favorite princess or dress up clothes. As for games...I havent thought that far yet. Time is getting short, so I will be interested in reading the replies you get. I hope your little girl has a fun birthday. I am sure they will both enjoy whatever we do for them.

Hi

A friend of mine has just had a princess themed party for her daughter & what they did is had all the girls arrive dressed in there princess dresses , then she had an art activity set up for them (she bought a photo frame from Michael's and had them decorate it) , then she did the girls hair and painted finger nails & then sat them down to eat , by the time they had finished the pizza and had birthday cake the 2 hr time frame she had allocated was done and the parents were arriving to take them home again. It was the right amount of time with enough to keep them occupied without her home being trashed! As for decorations she bought pink balloons and material and decorated the ceiling and had pictures of different Disney princesses on the walls , she bought a throne cheap from craiglist for the party girl to sit on and have pictures taken.

Hope this gives you some ideas

for entertainment that really encompasses the whole party (1 1/2 hours), I highly recommend Princess Amy Sue (www.amysuemakeup.com). She performed at my 4 yr olds birthday party this month - lots of games, plus goodie bags, gifts for the birthday girl and a little make up session. I had a dozen very happy princesses (and parents) at the party. And she's very affordable.

Hello D.,

Since I can't tell where you live, The Party Fairy store may not be a practical solution for you, but I certainly have the most enchanting place you've ever seen for little princesses. :)

With a magical setting that features a Unicorn Cave full of sparkling treasure and jewels, a castle table filled with tiers and tiers of cookies, cupcakes and other royal treats, pink canopied tea tables, princess costumes for all to wear, and a personal Fairy Godmother to run the show, it's quite the fairytale-come-true for little girls.

We offer magical picnics (boxed meal and makeover) with fairies under the willow branches in an enchanted willow glen, sweetly enchanting tea parties in a fairytale cottage with teacup chandeliers, and complete dress-up packages in our large and lavishly decorated party room for little princesses, fairies or mermaids.

A great way to check out the magic is to attend one of our special events....The porcelain Ballerina Doll on the tea cabinet in our fairytale cottage is coming to life Saturday, April 4, during a special Tea Party featuring a dance performance. This is one of our most popular special events of the year. If we're close enough, you should bring your daughter. You'll be able to see the store and all the things we offer.

But if we're too far away for you, we do sell party-to-go kits that may help you plan a party at home, and we have a couple of web sites to help you. You'll find some great (and free!) party advice -- and be able to post your own questions to get free answers -- at:
www.askthepartyfairy.com

For up-to-date information about upcoming special events at our store and current discounts, check out our blog at:
http://www.thepartyfairy.wordpress.com

And to see pictures of our parties and read about them, check out www.partyfairy.com

Even if you can't do the party at our store, you mightwant to make an appointment to give her a very magical birthday present -- an appointment with her Fairy Godmother for a Princess Makeover. We'll outfit her in a princess gown that will be hers to keep, do her nails, dust her with fairy glitter, apply a little lipstick, give her the wand and crown and costumed jewelry, then invite her for tea and cookies to have a private story session with her Fairy Godmother....Little girls adore this. :)

I did a similar 'Tinkerbell party,' and the girls loved it - I made it like a tea party - we hung streamers from the light above the table and curled them....it almost looked like a Mediterranean tent, but in pink...and had some food that she liked - good idea for kids would be little triangle shaped sandwiches (in true tea party fashion), the little dino chicken tenders with fries, pizza, pastries, etc...all finger foods....then make fancy drinks - I did Shirley Temples with Sprite Zero and Cherry juice with cherries in it and a pretty umbrella and spiral straws so the girls felt like they were actually grown-up princesses too. You can get the princess cups/plates/napkins, or use plastic ones that look like glass so it makes it a little fancier. The Enchanted soundtrack and movie are really good and the girls love it. Parties are always fun with pinatas (they have princess ones also), and a craft - I just got a sun catcher craft for my daughter's bday - they are fun to make and then the girls can take them home as a gift as well. We also included a 'makeover' - I curled their hair and put streaks of blue and pink in their hair - it washes out. And make sure each girl gets a goody bag that she can open up in the beginning with a crown and magic wand. The bags can also include lipgloss or something not too messy. And for the younger ones they can do coloring pages of princesses, etc.

I was thinking maybe doing finger foods would be nice. Like cut up fruit and veggies, cheese, maybe little eclairs or something similar for dessert. Maybe for a game you could have them walk with a book on their head. Make a crown. Play dress up, maybe the other moms could bring some of their clothes too. I hope this helps. Good Luck.

HI D.,
I did a princess party for my daugther when she was 4 and then again at age 5. The first one she invited all the girls from preschool. IT was very low-key. We decorated paper tiara's and I think we made necklaces. Mostly the kids just wanted to play outside (it was summer). She wanted the cake from the grocery store with the 4 princesses on top, mostly so she could have them to play with. (I usually make a cake.)
For the 5th birthday she wanted another princess party. I try to stear away from too much commercialization, so I avoided the Disney theme and did generic princess. She also wanted to invite boys, which posed a challenge. Here is what I did. First, I limited the number of invitees. We had about 3 boys and 6 girls. I made a skirt for each of the girls and a cape for each of the boys. I also found swords and crowns for the boys at the dollar store. For the girls I found pink cone-style party hats and added tulle and ribbon coming out the top of them. I also found a cardboard treasure box at the dollar store and put things like stickers, bubbles, ring pops, etc. in there for prizes. I dressed up in a long dress - "the queen". After the kids were dressed we went to the "ball" and played "freeze dancing". The kids would dance while the music played and when it stopped ("midnight") they would freeze. I would then pick a "winner" (funniest pose, most princess pose, etc.) and they got a prize from the treasure chest. We played until all the kids had won. Then I read the story of the Paper Bag Princess (while my daughter hid "dragon eggs" - blue and green plastic easter eggs - in the other room. WHen the story was over, they had to find the dragon eggs before they hatched. Of course one had already hatched, so they had to go slay the dragon (a pinata that we hung in the first room while they were searching for eggs). We then had cake (a castle cake I made) and opened presents. [Actually, we sang Happy Birthday and had her blow out the candles, then some other moms cut the cake while she opened gifts, then back to eat the cake.] After cake, we discovered a "dragon" (my older son) running in the yard. The kids had to "slay" the dragon with "magic potion" (water balloons - it was July).
It was a bit of work, but everyone enjoyed it.

Princess' want to be pampered! Do their hair, nails, make-up, and of course they need to come in their princess dresses! We are actually doing this for my daughter in June, she will be 6! We are taking 3 of her friends to a saloon to get pedicures and manicures (will cost about $60) and then out to dinner with my husband and my sons (4 and 2). But we are just making it a full night of pampering!! I think as long as you do that, you are good to go! And I would go easy on the food, make it light and finger foods! Good luck and have fun!

We had a Princess party for my daughter on her 4th birthday and of course all the girls wore their favorite princess dresses, but also, me, my mother-in-law, sister-in-law and two nieces who came along to help all went to Goodwill and found bridesmaid dresses for about $5 each and we dressed up as princesses with tiaras too! It was really fun and helped set the scene.

The Disneystore has a clearance on princess party supplies. I bought a set for my 2nd daughters 4th birthday next year. My oldest daughter had a party last year and we just had a pineta and let them play dressup.

You can buy supplies for pointy hats and have them decorate their own pointy hat. Instead of pin the tail on the donkey, make it a unicorn. You can get fairy stuff at Oriental Trading or at the party store. My husband made a "castle cake" - a normal sheet cake with cupcakes for the towers and little flags on top. You can get little plastic knights and stuff to put around the cake.

I used Chess pieces for my son's cake with a Knight theme. I was lucky enough to find the Harry Potter chess set discounted at the time. Keep an eye out at dollar and discount stores.

I also included chess pieces in the goody bags. I have seen inexpensive chess sets (better with people, not amorphous) from time to time.

You may want to pick up a couple of fancy dresses from GoodWill or Salvation Army (in case one of the girls forgets).

Also, ask your friends to donate old costume jewelry for the event.

We had a princess/abby cadabby party for my daughter in Nov; since she only turned 1 I'm sure it would be different. We did have some activities for the older kids though. At the dollar store they have a little craft section and they have foam crowns that you can get for the kids to decorate and wear and take home.
