My 2 year old has been very whiny for the past 2 days. He does not want to wake up either but he does not have a fever! He feels very very warm but his temp is normal. He also isn't really eating. I'm not sure what is wrong with him????

What can I do next?

This sounds very much like what my 20 month old has been experiencing the last couple of days. My husband just had a virus that lasted about a week or so and the symptons seem very similar..... not very hungry, and just generally not feeling well. He also never had a fever. Right now I'm assuming that my son has the same thing, but if it doesn't clear up in a few days I'm planning on taking him to the doctor. That would be my advice...give it a few days and see where he's at. Good luck!

You'd probably feel better if you took him to the Dr. but this sounds like my son right before a growth spurt. He gets whiny, clingy, grumpy, sleepy and not at all hungry, then wham - he shoots up an inch!

Good luck!

I agree with Julia - listen to your gut and at least call the pediatrician to see if they'd recommend bringing him in.

Our daughter has always had eczema and dermatitis, we don't think anything of it. Thank God a friend said something about a spot on her back because she ended-up having MRSA (staph infection). A quick call to the pediatrician, and they asked us to bring her in. They're usually really good about letting you know when it's best to take tylenol/benadryl or better to come in for a visit.

My four year old was the same way over the weekend last week. We let him sleep almost all day Friday, but Saturday we got him up. Gave him a warm bubble bath and fed him his favorite breakfast. Gave him a children's tylenol and monitored his temp. We played quiet games all morning and took him out to the petting zoo. After he got there, he starting running around and by 4:00 he said "I am all fixed. I am not sick again!"
But if it is two day and he is still in bed, you might want to just call his doctor. I know my kids sometimes just wear themselves out so much that a day of rest is all they need to feel great again, but you never know with toddlers.

Okay, I noticed we're both in PA. The last two days have been suddenly and unseasonably HOT. I eat very little when it's hot - no appetite. I haven't slept well, would have been whiny at work except for sucking it up, and after not sleeping well in hot weather, I wake up really groggy. Maybe a 2 year old can experience these same feelings?

Could it be his molars coming in? I'm not sure when they come in... but I'm sure those teeth have to be the worst! Good luck! I hope he feels better soon..

Better safe than sorry-take him to doctor, if for nothing else than peace of mind. I always think what if it was something and I did nothing? What if it gets worse and I just keep thinking it will go away? Better to let the doctor say it's nothing than try and self diagnose.

He could have an ear infection. Take him to the doctor to see or not if he has one. Ask him if his ears hurt. Most kids do not whine without a reason. You could also give him some tylenol for the pain. He is sick if he is not eating well and normally does. The other thing is that he also could be getting the two year old molars and that can make the ears hurt also. In any respect, if he is not doing well this morning call the pediatricians office and get him in there.

There seems to be a slew of strange things going around... the stomach virus is back in my area. My little one, 18 mos at the time, had Strep this past fall. She had no fever, or a very, very mild one, and just layed barely able to get up. When I took her to the doctor, since she was so obviously sick they checked for everything they could and to everyone's surprise she had step! (Usually not common in the little ones) I had no idea because she couldn't tell me what was bothering her. Sometimes its worth the copay to make yourself feel better... take him in.

I would think he's just extra tired. 2 year olds are very busy! Mine goes through some cycles where she just sleeps late, etc. and is always whiny when she doesn't get enough rest! I really wouldn't worry.
