So What Happened?

Yes, Well thanx everyone who took the time to respond to my question. I got pretty worried about my sons fever so I set up an appointment with his doct. (why is it that when you take them to the doctor all of a sudden they feel better :) Anyway,She told me (his doctor) that he had an ear infection. So she gave him some Amoxicillin for 10 days And that I can still give him Nortemp and Ibuprofen One and One every 4 hours. My son had always been grabbing at his ear but the doctor never found anything wrong with him so I never thought nothing of it. Well once againg thanx for everything everyone and may God bless you all. ;)

Hi,

I would take him in just as a precaution . . . my son only ran a very low fever and I took him to the doctors office and he ended up having type B flu. It's better to be safe than sorry. If you go to the ER over the weekend, you're going to have to wait a very long time, believe me! Best of luck!

When my kids were little they'd throw up with a fever--even if it was something unrelated like a strep throat. With a 102 fever and the weekend coming up, I'd say get him in to see the doctor! Good luck--hope this helps.

Are you putting him in cool baths when the fevers come? (Not cold water, but cool/luke warm) He should stay in 20 minutes. Make sure his hair gets wet. And motrin, tylonal switching off.

Popsickles and ice cream should help cool his insides, plus keep him hydrated.

Of course, if the fever has persisted over 4-5 days or is sustained above 102, you should take him into the doctor.

For fever, I give my son tylenol or motrin. If the temp. keeps rising, that would concern me and I'd get him in to see the doctor.

not many people know this, but you can use both ibuprofen and acetominofen medications at the same time, so if you have given tylenol and the fever is not reducing, you can also give motrin, the only thing you have to watch is that you leave 8 hours between the motrin and the next dose of motrin and the same with tylenol, 104 is what the docs say is the cut off to bring the child in.

i know all this coz my son had a fever of 104 last week.
get pedialyte popsicles, cool baths and a fan blowing on him.

my son also threw up with his fever, apparently there is something going around - it only lasted 48 hours then he was fine

Fever is the bodies way of fighting off an infection of some type. If it gets too high, though, that can be a problem. If it persists, I would say take him to the doctor. The luke warm bath is a great idea too. I also give my grandchildren (ages 2 & 4) Xango juice when they have fever or are sick. It is high in anti-oxidents and helps support their natural immune system. Amazingly, they haven't had to go to the doctor in over 1 1/2 yrs. I have samples if you want to try it, just email me privately.
Blessings,

Take him to the doctor when a fever is 101 degrees or higher, your kid could suffer brain damage.

Hello,
My 9yr.old was like that a few months ago for about 3 days. i took him in and they said it was a virus and had to run its corse.they suggested to give him plenty of fluids, little at a time so he wouldn't get dehydrated. Also to some tylenol every 3 1/2 hours before the fever returned. it eventually ran its course and was feeling better. i do suggest if hes not better in 3 days to take him to the doc.Hope hes better soon!!

You're medicating it right? You can alternate tylenol and motrin every 3 hrs, that way you are only giving each 1 every 6 hrs, but the fever is medicated every 3 hrs. Not vomiting this time just means he's sick with something different. It could be anything at all, ear/throat infection, virus, urinary tract infection... who knows. It's already Thursday so you might want to make an appt with his pedi so you can try an avoid an ER visit in the middle of the night or over the weekend if it hasn't cleared up by tomorrow.
Good luck!

Congrats for taking him in! Fevers over 101 often indicate bacterial infections so you should always err on the side of taking him into the doctor.

Good job Dad!!

Hi there,

is it just a temperature? Does Does he seem okay otherwise, is his mood pretty happy or is he acting sick? the reason I ask is this same thing happened to my 16 month old. She ran a pretty steady fever for 5 days, but other than the fever, she was fine. Well, by the 3rd day I took her to the Pedi, and it turned out she was getting three molars in all at once. So, is there any chance he's just teething? I would go ahead and make a doctors appt. just to see what's going on.

Good luck.

Hi there, fevers with no other symptoms are really common in children and adults, sometimes it's our bodies first and ONLY response to a virus. I know it can seem strange when no other symptoms are present but if the fever responds to Tylenol or Motrin then that's a good sign. I would give it a few days then call your Doc if fever persists more than four days without signs of improvement. Best wishes with your little one!

I have had best luck with persistent fevers alternating Tylenol and then Ibuprophen. However, unless they are miserable and the temp is not too high, I hold off to let their body do its work.

Congrats to you for getting to be in your 2 year old's life. Sounds like God has truly blessed you!

Keep a close eye on it...when my son was almost 2, he would get spiking fevers and they were due to ear infections. A couple of times he had a febril seizure The Dr. suggested getting tubes put in his ears and ever since then, he has been fine. He will be 9 yo tomorrow. Best wishes...

Along with what the doctor had recommended.
I would also suggest a good dietary supplement of Acidophilus while under the antibiotics to help the autoimmune and GI tract.

my daughter had that problem often. It ended up being a weird bacterial infection. We had to try several anti-biotics before we found one that worked for her. This was over the period of 12 days. Blood work helped determin the problem, so you might want to take him to a doctor and ask for labs if he hasn't had any. There were times where the fever got over 104, so it is very scary and exhausting on both of you. Her problem was worse at night.
You may want to alternate tylenol and motrin for the mean time.
