My 16 mo old daughter has been waking up earlier than usual every morning, and she is completely soaked! She likes her milk before she goes to bed, usually 2 sippy cups, so we tried just giving her one and she woke up at 3am-starved, or it was just a fluke. Anyways, I bought bigger size diapers just for night time because that is what had worked in the past, but the last couple weeks its not, she is still wet. Any ideas or special tricks to do for this, besides getting up in the middle of the night just to change her?
Well everyone, I went out and bought the Huggies overnights, one size bigger and for 2 nights now she has been dry! Hallelujah! I was a little disappointed in the price, but it is well worth it. Also, we are trying to cut down on her drinking 2 cups before bed. Thanks to of all my daughter is dry every morning, no more crying because she is cold and wet. Thank you!

Huggies sells a night time diaper. These are great for overnight. If for some reason you can't use them (my daughter is allergic to them) then you can always double diaper her. Put an extra diaper on loosely and this will help stop those leaks. Good Luck! Let us know what works.

You're giving too many liquids in the evening! 1 sippy cup is too much! Start giving her those extra liquids during the day time to make up the calories! She might not like it, but this problem will get worse and worse as she gets older!

Try adding some solid food to the snack time before bed. Cereal, yogurt, and cheese are some of the things that I gave my son as an evening snack. Good luck

If hunger is the issue, I would stop the milk (or the majority of it) and try oatmeal or something else that will fill her up before bed. Try something with protein.
If wetting the bed is the issue, you might try night time diapers, they are a little more absorbent in the right areas. Good luck!

I have 5 kids that are bigger now so I have been through a lot of experiences :)
I love being a mother...
What I used to do so my kids would not wake up hungry is give them something to eat before bed.
Oatmeal, toast, PBJ or something to stick to their tummies.
This also helps them not drink so much to fill up.
Also all day long I offered my kids water so they would not get too dried up. Sometimes we just don't think about having little kids drink enough water.
When they reached the age where they appreciated money I even added boxes on their chore chart where I paid them 10 cents a cup of water for what they drank each day. It only took a few months and after 3 moths they were all hooked on water and love it to this day :)
hope this helps, J.

My 17 month old was the same until I started using the Huggies overnights. I go with a size big on those too, which works better than her regular size. We tried the pads that you insert too, but I thought they seemed like they would be really uncomfortable for her.

May be you should reconsider what your daughter should have for dinner and as well you should reconsider what time her dinner should be. It helped when I had the same problems with my little one.

If she is drinking that much before bed, try giving her a non-sugary snack (crackers, bagel, etc) and cutting down the amount of milk she's drinking. The snack will stay longer in her tummy and help her sleep through the night, accident free. You'll want to start doing this anyway before starting to potty train.

Hi N.!
I would definitely try to change up the nighttime drinking routine - maybe move the bottle up before bath or dinner, then up some more to help. Drinking that much before (two sippy cups!) definitely is part of the problem!
-just wait until you are potty training!!!
Taking it slow, just maybe an hour at a time, is good, or maybe still giving it to her but more earlier then smaller amounts later until you've shifted it out...
:)
Good luck!!!

My son had the same issue and I found that Huggies work best. His diaper is usually soaked in the moring around 7am but he is hardly ever soaked through. So if you use Pampers or Luvs, see how Huggies work for you.

Diaper Doublers at Toys R Us. They r like a big sanitary pad. Work great, I believe they are less expensive then the diaper overnight brands.

Instead of letting her fill up on 2 sippy cups offer 1 sippy cup and a hand full of crackers or a banana... Then her belly has a bit more weight in it and its not all liquid...

cut out drinks after dinner. just give a sip of water before bed. she won't like it for a few days, but she'll get over it, just like giving up bottles, paci's, or anything else babies give up. but as far as the bedwetting goes, i wouldn't worry about it. obviously as she gets older and is potty trained she'll learn that feeling. or, if she's like my daughter she'll sleep so deep that she does great during the day, but is wet every a.m. she's going to be 4 in june and still wears a pull up to bed. my son on the other hand hasn't worn a diaper of any kind in a very long time, and he'll be 3 next month. weird how different kids are.
have you tried the huggies overnights? i know i used to use them on my daughter before she was potty trained and they saved me from having so many laundry days. or, try putting those plastic pants over her diaper.
my kids used to have a sippy of milk (only about 3/4 - 1 cup) and i cut it out. it was part of their routine, but they get used to not having it after awhile.
best of luck!

Hi, My daughter who is now 15 months started to do the same thing. First try just giving her 2 sippy cups but only filled up half way each and start a little earlier so that she thinks she is getting the same amount. But more importantly try Huggies nite time diapers. They are much thicker than regular diapers and they have worked for my daughter perfectly:) I get them at Kroger or Target. Good luck!

My son went through this also only he had to have three sippy cups and he would wake up wet twice a night so I feel your pain. We used the overnight diapers but sometimes even that did not cut it so we found these diaper inserts. They are basically a maxi pad but they don't have the adhesive and they are a lot less expensive( about 2.50 for a pack of 30). The only place I could find them was at Babies R Us though. Ultimatly we did take him off of the sippy cups though and that was much better.

We had the same problem with our son (when he was 2 1/2 ). We actually pick up Goodnights(I think that is the name of them- blue package) the small medium size at Wal-Mart. They have been a blessing. Aaron had been waking up soaked with the largest diaper made. These are like pull-ups but they are for a little older kids. They do have them for girls also. I hope this helps. J.

I give my 14 month old cereal & fruit before bedtime and then if she needs a little milk before going to sleep - I give her just about 4 oz - she still wakes up in the middle of the night but I think that is more for a cuddle than anything else - she at least is not waking up hungry anymore and her diapers last all night:}
My sister has a 17 month old and he screams for food in the middle of the night unless she feeds him just before bed also. I think she normally does bread and jam or something like that.
Good Luck...

Have you tried Overnites? I use Huggies Overnites and they work great, but I don't know if it will be good enough to take care of 2 sippy cups! Something that has helped me with my kids is giving them more to eat or drink a little earlier (or even just more during the day) and then taking them potty, or changing the diaper right before bed. Good Luck!

I sware by Huggies NIGHTIME Pull-ups. I started using them just at night with all my kids before potty training. They hold so much and I hated when they woke up soaked and would have to change their sheets in the middle of the night. The nightime hold way more than the regular pull-ups so be sure to buy the right ones. I started using them with my 16 month old son just recently and he also drinks 2 cups of milk before bed. I still go with Pampers Cruisers during the day and save the pull-ups for at night only. Good Luck!

Changing bedding and pj's every day makes lots more work! Trust me just get the Huggies Overnights. Problem solved. We didn't cut back on milk before bed - he likes it too much.

Hi N.
The first thing you may want to try is Huggies (make sure it is the Original...it says "Stops Leaks" on label), but one size bigger than her regular diapers. I found that this always worked better for my kids than the nightime diapers for some reason. Just make sure to put them on a little bit higher and secure around the legs so she doesn't leak out of the legs.
Also, I would try to feed her at least one hour before bedtime (if not longer). I give my 16 month old 5-6 oz. of milk/water-mixed at 6:45-7pm with her "dinner", and then typically put her in her diaper/jammies at 8pm and in bed between 8:15-8:30. It seems to work out well. She has only wet through a couple of times ever and that's by 8AM the next morning (that extra-sized Huggies diaper helps!)
As a sidenote, I remember years ago the pediatrician
telling us that babies only need 16 oz. of milk all day and no more. That was 9 years ago. When I asked her again recently (as my third is 16 months old), she said it was still true. If it weren't for the need for the full fat and DHA you find in the organic milk, I'm not even sure I would give them milk...it is not that good for us after all. If she seems 'addicted' to her milk, try doing 4 4oz. sippes a day ( ex. 8am/12pm/4pm/7pm) of whole/dha organic watered down with a couple oz. of water. That way she is getting filled up with the right amount of milk and not too much. Give her the rest of her calories through solid food.
Just my two cents.
Hope you get it figured out!

N...we had this issue with our son (now 12 years old) when he was that age. We only gave him about one-half cup of liquid one hour before bed. His body slowly got used to that process, and, no, he did not like it. But he got used to it. If you are still having problems, you may need the advice of a urologist. Our daughter had bladder problems up until she was about 4 years old. She had medication to help her bladder work properly. Hope this helps..

Well milk doesn't generally lead to soaking. So I'd say set your alarm for 2 a.m. and get her changed before she's soaked.
As far as one or two sippy cups, you've conditioned her. Her system is now accustomed to so much that it automatically kicks in as being starved. E.g., I can go to bed feeling hungry, but 9 times out of 10 I'll ignore it, and go to sleep soundly and hold out till breakfast.
You have to break a habit at some point. But for her age, most of what you're saying is normal. And getting up to feed or change her is part of the package.

Try giving your baby a snack and one sippy cup. That way she'll have something more solid on her stomach. This should allow her to sleep longer.
