i just recently found out i am about 8-81/2wks pregant. of course i had no idea because i still had my cycle last month. so when i was very late i took a test and well it came back positive. I am very worried because i was in vegas for a vacation and went to couple of family get togethers. so there were times i was drinking and some times i had too much. i asked the dr. and she said not to worry to much becaus alot of women dont know they are pregnant the first month and sometimes past that. It didnt really help me much. very worried and not sure what to think or do.

What can I do next?

I would not stress about it. The embryo hadnt attached iteself to the uterine wall yet and formed the umbilical cord..this is how my friends dr explained it to her and calmed her down ;-) Best wishes! and congrats!

I will repeat what others have said, don't worry yourself about it.

Technically speaking: your pregnancy is counted as the two weeks between your menstrual cycle and when you ovulate , then the next two weeks is fertilization and implantation...you are now up to four weeks and the baby has just barely burrowed into your uterus lining...at six weeks they are well implanted and their yolk sac they live off of the first few weeks is playing out. Then they start to get nourishment from you, mostly just the uterine wall at first as the umbilical cord develops directly from you.

So if I explained myself well...you have about six weeks of leeway until the baby is exposed to what you are exposed to...sometimes a bit longer.

No worries...and just think when our parents were having us...my mom told me the OB wouldn't even see you until you had missed three cycles. They told you to have one drink a day to "relax" and smoking would keep you from gaining too much weight while pregnant. We all mostly turned out fine!!

Sending you a big hug and telling you...you are going to be a good mom...you are already worried just like the rest of us and your baby is about the size of a grain of rice.

Please set your mind at ease! The placenta doesn't even begin forming until the 8th or 9th week of development. Up until then, the zygote (to use scientific words) has absolutely no connection to the mother's body. It is fed off of the yolk sac and whatever glucose is available to the cell.
Since it has no connection, there is no danger of contamination!

Congrats!

Relax. Your doctor is right, if one or two nights of drinking would mess kids up we would have a lot of messed up kids.

I drank before I found out I was pregnant and was worried. Then, I thought, if Courtney Love can have a healthy child, well, a few beverages and then abstinence from any drinking will be OK!

Don't worry! I was pregnant and didn't know it, when the Lakers won the championship 08, and we had gatherings every other day until they won and every time we drank-I was so sad and scared when I found out I was preg, but my daughter is here and healthy! You just have to concentrate on taking care of yourself now. Hope this helps!

The biggest reason doctors tell you not to drink in pregnancy is that they know drinking large amounts throughout pregnancy can cause FAS. They don't know what the "safe" level of alcohol consumption is, to they just say don't drink. As all the others have said, don't worry about it, avoid alcohol from here on, and enjoy the beautiful baby you have at the end. Sounds like your doctor was right on.

stressing out wont change a thing, only put stress on your precious little baby. i found out i was pregnant with my 2 1/2 year old 3 days after my husband and i got married!!! the night before I found out we had stayed at a hotel for our "honeymoon" the room came with a complimentary bottle of wine. i drank a little over half the bottle myself. i was freaked out!!! my OB said not to worry, and my boy is as healthy as any other. dont worry, just now that you know dont drink anymore, which we know you wont. CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR BABY!!!!!!!!!!! I am so happy for you!!

I definitely would not stress out about it. I did not know I was pregnant for a LOT longer than 8 weeks. I went snowboarding, sat in saunas, enjoyed new years eve and valentine's day, drank, and all sorts of things before I found out I had been pregnant. Your baby is fine. Stressing out is not helping!

I was around 8 weeks as well when I found out I was pregnant. I know that I definetly drank my share of alcohol before I found out, a long with my bad habit of smoking. Right when I found out I stopped smoking, and drinking ( of course). I also suffered from stress and anxiety, so constantly worrying will not help. You need to rest assure that by making good choices now, your baby will grow healthy and normally. Their are things you can do to help-no caffeine, less sodium, drink lots of water, eat lots of protein, fresh fruit and veggies, and excersize. Reducing stress also will work wonders for you. Enjoy your pregnancy!

The stress at this point is probably worse than any damage that may have been done! I honestly would not worry about it. Things like FAS only show up in babies whose mothers used long term throughout the pregnancy. If you are good and healthy from here on out I am sure you and baby will be fine.

don't worry yourself, what's done is done and you can't do anything now, but make sure you are taking care of yourself and the baby. Eat right, exercise, take prenatals, and go to all your dr.appointments. I've had 2 boys and am sure that I had some drinks in the very early stages with the first before I knew I was pregnant, and he is perfect and healthy! Enjoy your pregnancy!

I agree with others, there is nothing to worry about. A few drinks really won't hurt you or the baby. In fact later in pregnancy a lot of doctors recommend a glass of red wine. 2 reasons they recommend not to drink, 1 there is really no way to tell how much is OK and 2 most people do not know how to drink moderately so they just say don't drink to be safe. You would have to be drinking a lot for the baby to have any effects, so if it was just a few drinks, I'm sure everything is fine!

You know better now, so you won't be doing it, but really, don't beat yourself up... you didn't know! Lot's of women do far worse before they know (and a few unfortunately continue after)... baby will be fine. Don't stress, baby feels it!

CONGRATS!! :)

Stressing about it now, when you can't change it, is likely to do more harm than your actual drinking. I found out I was pregnant after Christmas and New Years....and my daughter is perfect. Just be sure to make good choices from now on......and congratulations!

The only thing you can do is worry about now and do your best. I went to a wedding before I knew I was pregnant and had a few drinks, my baby turned out fine. My brother's idiot ex drank a lot before she knew she was pregnant, and their baby is fine. You can only worry about what you can control, you can't control past you's actions.

The same thing happened to me with my first. I had an entire bottle of wine and was terribly hung over from it. There was lighter drinking on top of that. Then I found out I was pregnant. Talk about panic central! My doctor said the same thing but it wasn't comforting at all. I can say, my 7 yr old is as healthy as the next and as sharp as a tack. Phew! Not ideal, sure. However, don't let this stress you throughout your pregnancy. Stress releases natural chemicals in the body that your baby is exposed to as well. You don't want that for the baby either. I assure you that there are hundreds of thousands who have been in your shoes. Again, not recommended but will likely be just fine.

Don't worry, I know it's easier said then done. I didn't find out I was pregnant with my first until I was 7 weeks along. I had almost a whole bottle of wine one night not knowing I was pregnant, I was probably 5-6 weeks along. My baby turned out perfectly fine! Congrats!

Dont worry about what you did in the past, just worry about what you will do in the future! Stressing out about what you cannot control is going to drive you crazy.

Everything will be alright! Try not to stress and just focus on the good :)

Congrats on the baby!!

I didn't know I was pregnant and went out with some friends. We ended up playing pool, listening to live music and drinking waaaaay too much. I was worried too, once I found out about the baby! But my now 7 year old daughter is healthy and happy (and always has been). You and your baby will be fine :)

I know several friends that worried about this same thing and their kids are absolutely fine! Just don't do any of it now for the remainder of your pregnancy. Congrats on your pregnancy too!
