Wont be able to afford 2 DayCare bills, what do Nannies cost in Rockland Cty, NY

Hi All,
i have a 2 year old daughter who is in daycare now in Westchester County (near my office) i pay about $1500 a month for that! I just found out that i am pregnant and am already worried about child care when it is time for me to go back to work after the new baby is born. I definately cant afford to pay $3000/mo for 2 kids at the current daycare center i use. (and they were pretty much my only option b4 b/c of my hours and them being so close to my job)My husband thinks it would be cheaper to have a nanny come to our house every day. We live in Rocklnad county, NY.

Does anone know what the going rate is for a nanny?

Is it normal to feel nervous about having just 1 person in my home watching them, instead of an official center with other kids and teachers to interact with every day?

I'm not sure about Rockland, but I would assume it's pretty comprable to Westchester. I don't have a nanny but when I was looking into it, people were telling me to assume at least 30K/year and that's for only one child. With 2 children it will be more. So, you probably wouldn't be any better off than 2 bills at daycare. Plus a lot of nannies require benefits, or at least paid vacation time (separate from your own vacation when you'd still be paying them), so then you have to worry about that.

I would check with your daycare, you may get a slight discount on the second child.

Good luck!
