My husband is making some wooden building blocks for his nephew. We want to put letters, numbers and shapes on them, and I am in charge of designing the templates. In order to save some time and energy, I am looking for a good font to use (vs. drawing everything out by hand.)
I am looking for a font that is simple and in the same style as how children are taught to write. For example, I do not want the uppercase I and the lowercase l to look the same (such as you see here with the i & L), and I want the lowercase q to have the little "hook". Do you have any suggestions for fonts?
I think there is a stencil type font that would be kind fun and traditional for building blocks, I don't remember the name of it though. I personally use comic sans a lot when making kid stuff. It's got a cute written look to it and kind of kiddish, but still normal looking letters. I would just go through the fonts and look at them all, your computer can't have that many!
If you don't have any special primary fonts installed, Century Gothic (not Century Schoolbook!) has the lower case "a" you want.The question mark isn't that good, but you won't need that on blocks. Try it in bold, too, and see which you like better. I am a first and second grade teacher and that's what I use when I print out anything for kids.
I like Century Gothic for the lowercase a. 2 Peas Blueberry Pie also has the hook on the lower case q and has the capital i you want. ALPHMA_ is a good one except the lowercase z looks more cursive. CATHSGBR is a good one that looks like handwriting instead of computerized. Cheyenne Hand is a good one also.
