yep, we've got diaper rash. he's not bothered by it at all. but his poor bottom is very red and i can't leave it anymore. i've been covering it with vaseline at every change to keep the wetness off. i would love to leave him play nakie but he is soooo mobile that there'd be no way to keep any messes localized. what do you ladies like for rashes?
Vaseline keeps wetness away from the rash, but it doesn't let the area "breathe", and it doesn't have any active ingredients to treat the rash. I primarily used Desitin for mild rashes. I'm sure any zinc oxide-based ointment would work just as well. For more severe rashes I used Pinxalve (pronounced pink salve). It's available at drugstores, but sometimes they keep it behind the pharmacy counter. If you don't see it on the shelves, ask the pharmacist. It's good stuff.
Butt Paste (Dr. Boudreau's - I think that is the name - yellow box with baby on it)
They sell it at Walgreens
It's the best thing in the whole world and you will never go back to any other creams!!
I use Desitin or if you are out of that baby powder works for my baby.
The nurse that came out after I had my son suggested Desitin CREAMY. It's hard to wipe off when it dries, but OMG it works AWESOME!!! My little guy had diaper rash badly from the hospital wipes and had a bright red bottom. Poor guy...the creamy Desitin cleared it up in a matter of a couple of days.
Good luck

I have found A&D workd the best for me.. You might have to go to your doctor as well if the A&D doesn't work.. I had to do this for my daughter when she was little. Also, I had to switch to Sensitive Pampers Wipes as well.
The best thing to use for diaper rash is A&D. It is great and they have 1 to stop the rash and 1 to prevent the rash! It is the best stuff out there and costs about $4 a tub, but it's well worth it! Hope this helps!
For day to day, I use good old fashioned A&D ointment. I buy the big tub and it lasts forever. When a rash does break out, I either use Desitin overnight formula (in the purple box) or Aveeno diaper rash cream.
There's another paste they sell at Walgreens. I can't remember the name of it at the moment, but it's $8.99 for a tiny blue & white tube. I use that for the extreme cases.
Alot of people will reccomend Boudreaux's Butt Paste, but it did nothing to help clear my daughter's rash and I tossed the tube.
Good luck. I always feel terrible when my daughter gets a diaper rash and she cries during the changes.
please see message
Boudreaux's butt paste works good
Nystatin it is a RX
Lotrim
Vaseline
stop baby wipes also helps
baking soda in the bath water works the most for my 2 :)
I have 6 kids, and swear by desitin...smells bad but works great....good luck
I use Desitin or Balmex they both work great. You want to get that under control before it gets really bad. the other thing you can treat it with is Lotrimin. Yes is it is a fungal treatment for your feet but it works, the peditrician also recommened this to me.
Hope this helps.
I used to use Desitin and Aquaphor on my kids bottoms and it worked really well.

I use the regular Desitin. The creamy is good too, but for some reason the regular works better. It seems thicker to me.
Has he been on any antiboics. He might have a yeast infection. How long has he had it. MY kids get them.

Natahsa,
My old babysitter gave me a product called Resinol. It' a medicated cream-its a pinkish color. You have to actually ask the pharmacist for it as it doesnt sit out on the shelves. No prescription is necessary. It's a little pricy, but it works WONDERS on diaper rash. It isnt made for that, but it does work. It usually clears up the rash in less than 2 days. It does stain the diapers, so dont freak out like I did the first time I used it. I have had great luck with it. Good luck!!

I used desitin, unless it was a bad one, then the best ever is called PINXAV (pink salve) it's in a little white plastic jar with a gold label and black writing. It's incredible. Usually after one use, it was cleared up.
I have found that Eucerin Cream works well. It is thick and pasty and takes a while to soak in so it leaves a wetness barrier. It is a bit expensive but it works. The Wal-Mart brand of it is also good.

Pinxav is the best, I swear by it!!!!!!!
Natasha, your little guy might have diaper rash due to moisture, or he might have diaper rash due to food sensitivity or allergy (especially if you've started feeding him solids and his system is getting more and more new foods).
Nakey time is truly the best, fastest way to cure a moisture-related diaper rash - if it's really very red, I wouldn't mess w/ creams or ointments since that just prolongues the problem. Just do the quick method of giving him lots of "air time" by hanging out with him in one room for a few hours (like a room w/ no or few carpets, like the bathroom or kitchen) - accidents really aren't that horrible!!! And it's very temporary, just until the redness gets better. Just keep nearby:
1) a roll of toilet paper (if he poops, pick it up w/ this, though you can pretty much always tell when that's about to happen so you could even whisk him over the potty if you saw those signs - in other cultures, 7 months olds are regularly pottied in a gentle, no stress way, so you certainly won't harm him if you do this)
2) a few old rags (to clean up any pee since toilet paper isn't terribly absorbent)
For more information on great ways to give naked time and avoid lots of messes and avoid having a 3 or 4 yr old in diapers (babies & toddlers are quite capable of knowing when they have to go & where to go - they just need a little more help getting there):

We started this with our daughter as soon as we found out about it (she was 8-9 months old at the time), and it was sooo much more enjoyable for all of us than diapering, plus no more diaper rash! Now we're doing this with our 2nd child, and we started from birth. He's almost 12 mos old now, and whoa, I'm so glad that I'm not dealing with poopy diapers (vast majority happens in the potty) and he's dry for many, many hours every day. Every baby is able to communicate their need to potty - use your son's diaper rash as a reason to give him some much needed nakey time and even give "elimination communication" a try. Babies are really amazing!
Hope his diaper rash clears up quickly!
If it doesn't clear even with lots of nakey time, it's time to investigate other causes like yeast infection or bacterial infection (your ped would need to diagnose this), or food sensitivity or allergy (http://www.kellymom.com/babyconcerns/food-sensitivity.html).
