Not sure what brand to buy... Please let me know which disposable breast pads and nursing bras are the most comfortable and best to buy. Thanks! I have no clue. :)
lansinoh are by far the best breast pads. I think the best nursing bras are bravado and best nursing tanks are glamourmom.
I like Johnson and Johnson's nursing pads - I have never had them leak through to my clothes. I bought my nursing bras at Walmart, and they work fine (though I haven't tried any other brands).
Lansinoh pads were the best. Gerber "heavy flow" second best. You definitely want contoured design, otherwise the shape of the pad shows through your shirt (it looks like giant circles on your boobs).
I liked my medela nursing bra the best, but I had a nice one from MiMi Maternity too. Don't remember the brand, but very supportive.
Lasinoh pads (in the purple box) get a big thumbs up from me and my Moms group...Target has a good selection of bras...some with underwire some not..and some of them are lacey so you can still feel "pretty". Best of all they run between $12-$16!
Johnson and Johnson are shaped to look more natural and have never leaked through. I tried the Lansinoh and they crinkle, showing through anything I wore - very unnatural looking.
I have almost a full box of J&J I'd love to give you if you live near me. I finished nursing before I ran out and I hate waste stuff, so they're sitting in my drawer. You can try for free!
I live downtown/uptown by American Airlines Ctr.
Warm regards,

Amber,
I have been using the Lansinoh pads. They work really well. When i first started back to work i would leak ALL the time. But the pads never let it leak through tp my shirts. Good Luck!

There's a really good maternity store in Southlake called the mother's nest or something like that. They will fit you for nursing bras (and do a great job). Regarding which bra is best, it depends on your size really. I'm much smaller and loved the bravado bras but they do not offer much support if you're a bigger girl. You do want to avoid anything with an underwire because these can clog ducts (your ducts stretch all the way under your arm pits).
I personally didn't find one pad better than any of the others. I used Medela and J&J. I can't say I have a preference. But one other thing I would highly highly recommend is Lansinoh lanolin. It is pure liquid gold!! Also, once you no longer need it, it's still wonderful stuff for scrapes, chapped lips and dry cuticles, etc. Arm yourself with a tube and you will not be sorry. I also had soothies on hand as well as those ice packs just for breasts. A rice sock is good too sometimes.
Not sure what size you are, but I have about 10 bras that I only used for about 6 weeks, couldn't make enough for my son. You can have all of them, if they will fit. You might find one that you particularly like and then can buy new ones of the same kind... let me know. ( :

I tried all the disposable ones, and Johnson's in the blue box worked the best for me. They felt the most comfortable, and are shaped better, so they don't show through your clothes like the others. I felt like they were more absorbant too.
As for the bra, I just bough mine from Motherhood. I did get extender tabs at Motherhood (they are at Walmart in the sewing section too). They are awesome for giving a little more stretch in the back for those days when you really need it.
I really liked lansinoh breast pads and lanolin. I didn't have a favorite bra. Just be sure it is comfortable.
I love my Bravado nursing bras. I actually went to Harris Hospital downtown and bought mine - they have people there tha will help you get fitted properly. As far as nursing pads are concerned - I have tried them all! The only ones that stay in place, don't look hideous (just because I am nursing doesn't mean I want EVERYONE to know it!) and don't leak are the Medela. They have some sticky stuff on the back that keep them from shifting around. They are very thin but VERY absorbent. They look natural when I have my bra on - some of them were TERRIBLE in this department - especially if you wear white! The Medela were the only ones that I loved. Also - the Lilypads are awful!! Don't waste your money!
I did NOT like the johnson and johnson pads as they are very cotton-y and so would stick to my nipples and then little strands would have to be picked off before feeding so they wouldnt get into my babys mouth. And when you are sore when you first start breatfeeding having to unstick them from your nipple was horrible. I LOVE the laniosh (purple box) and medela (yellow box)breast pads. (There isnt much difference between the 2) They are VERY absorbant, have more coverage and are thin so dont show through clothes. I got my nursing bras at motherhood but learned to get the ones that are very flexible so they will go under your breast and be out of yours and the babys way. If you get the ones that are like wonder bra material (they are think and keep the shape of a breast when not on if that makes sense) then they dont tuck under your breast and will keep coming up and getting the baby in the face. I love that you can try them on at motherhood then you can see what is comfortable too. The ones I got were only $16. Congrats and good luck! :)
posted 2 times some how. Sorry.
I swear by the Lanisoh brand (purple box) breast pads!!!! They are the best, easy to find, and cost the same as most others!!!!! I did not like any other ones as the Lanisoh ones have a material that turn to a "gel" when moist and wick moisture away. The others just soak up the moisture and feel wet. I use these when out/at work and the washable ones from motherhood (they are cheap) at night or when at home all day (to save some money and the environment).
I also have lilly pads that I use on occassion. They prevent leaks by sealing the milk duct. This is great later on or for special occassions (weddings, dressier times, etc) but at the beginning of nursing, when you are trying to establish your milk production, you are supposed to avoid doing this. It prevents extra production (supply and demand idea-what you leak your body re-furbishes)and because your breasts are not used to milk production yet, they are more prone to mastitis and clogged milk ducts in the beginning and these can aid in those probs at the beginning! But they are great later on, so don't dismiss them totally. I've had one pair through two kids and they are a great alternative to the pad.
As for bras, I haven't found one I'd swear by yet-either they don't seem to last very long (Target, some Motherhood's) or are too expensive (I think), BUT WHAT I CAN TELL YOU IS DON'T GET ONE WITH UNDERWIRE!!!!!!!! I can't even understand why they make them because I've had several doctors tell me they damage milk ducts and can cause major probs.
Good luck!
If you find a good bra, tell me about it!

I really liked the Bravado nursing bras - very comfortable. I believe you can find them at the breastfeeding 'boutique' in the Harris hospitals. I got mine at a shop in The Southlake Town Square called Mother's Place (or something like that) - however, I think it may not be there anymore. I also loved the nursing camisoles, and wore them constantly, under sweaters or button shirts (easy access), and even as pajama tops. I got several of them at Target.
As far as nursing pads, By the time I found some I liked, I didn't really have a huge need for them (luckily I had very few leakage issues). I used Gerber pads because they are very thin and were comfortable for me. Some of the brands that are thicker stuck to me and left behind little fibers.
I used Medela disposable pads. I sell breastfeeding products and have alot of moms who like the Bravado pads alot.
I personally had great luck with Bravado bras and the Medela seamless as well. I also get great feedback from the moms that I help about the Glamourmom nursing tanks that I carry (I would have used these alot for the great coverage however I discovered them after I was done nursing my second baby).
Best of luck!

hi! i have extremely leaky boobs, so pads are a day & night necessity for me. i hated the johnson & johnson ones... very padded and smaller in size. i love the lansinoh (purple box). they are larger in size which is great when you are replacing in the middle of the night, you don't have to be spot on, ya know?? and they are thinner but just as absorbent. i've used them with 3 kiddos now. Plus, the best part is that you can buy them at target, walmart, albertsons, and i'm sure other grocerys. always in the baby aisle.
oh, and target has great nursing bras and tanks... in the ladies underwear section. they are inexpensive. remember to buy at least one size bigger to accomodate your milk coming in.
good luck!
Bravado nursing bras (available at A MOTHER'S GIFT in Plano Presby) and Medela Nursing disposable pads (which I prefer strongly over the Lansinoh. The Medela are just as absorbant, but not as stiff. They contour better and are softer. My girlfriend who had a baby at the same time agrees.)
