I just recently realized that we have a significant amount of water coming in through cracks in our cement block basement walls when it rains. Does anyone have any experience on the best way to fix this? I've been looking into the Basement Systems waterproofing, but it's all very confusing to me. My husband doesn't really have any knowledge or interest in home maintenance, so I'm pretty much on my own. We have a small house and we only plan on living here a few more years, just until we have enough equity. We don't have a sump pump, and are still paying off the loan we had to get to have the walls anchored so they would stop bowing in. We're trying to make it a finished basement and have already installed new windows (including an egress), so they're not the problem. And we know the basic yard maintenance (grading the dirt away from the walls, keeping gutters clear, etc) I just don't know if it's worth spending so much on the Basement Systems to do it professionally. Has anyone used Thrasher Basement on waterproofing repairs? Or is there anyone else that works in the Lincoln, NE area you'd recommend getting an estimate from?
My other question is when we finally have a third bedroom down there, would you feel safer putting the kids in there, or have your bedroom in the basement?
