I have always wanted to speak spanish since it is part of my heritage. I took it in high school, which didn't help me at all. I would love to take a college class, but have no time. I read a lot of bad reviews for the rosetta stone (plus it is $$$). Has anyone out there learned a second language? How did you do it and was it really hard to do? Thanks in advance for any and all advice!
I would recommend checking out the community education program for your school district. Some programs offer many different language classes. I haven't taken any language classes, so I have no personal experience, but community education is usually pretty reasonably priced. I have done many other types of classes with very positive experience.
I can;t really help you with where to learn but i am in the same boat. My husband is hispanic and his parents and grandparents speak spanish, he and his sisters do not and i want my son to be bilingual. i can warn you though that books and cds to learn are going to teach you wrong. All the books i have found for my son and i have spanish spanish in them not actual spoken mexican spanish. If you have family members that speak spanish or know soneone that doesn your best bet might be through them. i asked my mother in law to write down everyday words for my son and i to learn and i am begging her to come spend the summer with us so that she can work with me everyday on speaking it. good luck and if you find something that works please let me know!
