I have volunteered to read to my son's first grade class on Valentine's Day. Boys and girls in the classroom. At least half of the kids are already 7-years old. They are also reading at a 2nd/3rd grade reading level. Any suggestions for great Valentine's books I could read? Maybe something funny? Looking to keep their attention...
Thanks!
Jan brett has a book called Valentine Bears, the 2 bears have an Ohenry story, they both want to wake up from hibernation and surprise the other with candy bugs etc, there is a funnypart when the lady bear dowses the boy bear with water to wake him up.
this is my standard but 'll be watiting to see if there is something better.
oh and if it’sapproprite there is a book called Roses are pink your feet really stink by diane degroat. I just don’t do that one due to name calling but if you know the class and they can handle it it might be ok.
I would guess you are limited by time. The age (grade level 2nd/3rd) would be reading chapter books. “Juni B. Jones Mushy Gushy Valintimes” sounds like a good selection for the kid to read, yet may be too long for you to read in the classroom. The age range is 5-8, so the material should be age appropriate.
Just curious, how do you know the kids are reading at 2nd/3rd grade level. My son’s first grade has such a range of readers.
“Nate the Great and the Mushy Valentine!” by Marjorie Weinman Sharmat. It’s a good mystery series for that age range and a fun read aloud. and “Olive, My Love” (the same Olive from “Olive, the Other Reindeer”). I think one of those two would be cute, sweet reads for the class. Have fun!
