My nephew is off school starting June.4th and I need for him to do something productive with the summer vacation, any ideas on how to get him involved in a program that have english classes as well as sports?
how bout volunteering in a field relating to what he wants to do in the future
I don't know of any camps for teenagers. They are usually the junior counselors at camp. Would he be interested in that? What about a summer job?
My brother and almost every boy in my family went to camp Takajo in Maine. They are amazing. As for english classes I'm sure they will accomidate. Jkust ask them.

I know UNF has summer camps both academic and sports. I got a flyer in the mail a few weeks ago. Check their website http://www.unf.edu/ia/pr/marketing_and_publications/insideunf/2009/april/#unfofferssummercampsforkids
There are so many resources: your local community center, libray, churches, the school PTA, friends going to programs so he can continue to socialize...check them out. Have HIM check out options, this way it's his choice. Money is an issue with "sleep away camps", so give him the chance to pick out activities.
Perhaps a summer camp would be ok with you, but would it be ok for your nephew? I think that I would engage in a dialogue with the nephew and find out what his interests might be then procees from there. Going to summer camp in his mind might be his way of thinking that you are trying to get rid of him. can't you do some family - type things with him instead?
I would have him map out his summer break, give him a few days to accomplish this task. This way he can pick and choose. If he is like a lot of teens out there who just wanna watch TV then get the cummunity summer activities newsletter they have something for all ages + you can have input then if he is not proactive about having a plan.
I would do something like this:
Writing class (english) Maybe a couple mornings a week, then have him involved in a sport in afternoons or vice versa. Maybe guitar lessons if he wants to learn music.
Good luck
Total age difference here, but, we enrolled my grandson in Karate at Martial Arts America, He leaves school and takes the Karate Bus to the Center where he takes classes, they have many activities also, but in line of your request, they have a summer program where they learn the arts, discipline and how to focus and concentrate. This has changed my grandson's grades tremendously. This has been such a good thing for him, we are enrolling him in the summer program in conjunction with black belt training. They don't do english, but this is just a thought.
