Sore penis

Hello Ladies!

So last week we went on a little family beach vacation. The kids loved the water and we could not keep them out of it the first two days. After day two we noticed that our son developed some irritation on his penis and inner thigh from the sand and mesh swim suit lining. I cleaned him the best I could and covered him with Aquaphor before putting his diaper on. He stayed out of the water the only other day we went to the beach. He behaves fine all day, no complaints, no signs of being uncomfortable but on Thursday night he woke up screaming saying that his penis hurt. Call the doc, they say continue what you are doing. By Saturday morning we were home and I was convinced we were looking at a UTI, took him to the pediatrician, they tested his urine and he was perfectly clear. What they think is going on is that he could have actually gotten sand in his ureteur and has a scratch inside. Here is my problem. All day he acts totally normal, doesn't complain, doesn't express any discomfort but at night he is up three or four times screaming about his penis. I have no idea what to do for him. I am giving him 2-3 baths a day in clear warm water and loading his penis up with Aquaphor or A& D at each diaper change. Should I be calling the pediatrician back? If the UTI was negative what else could they do for him? Thanks for any input.

If I was you and he is not feeling better, I would take him back and request other tests. Maybe they can do an ultrasound, or x-ray? Why don't you use a little of neosporin? just in case he has an infection. Don't let the doctor tell you that is nothing, if your son is hurting then there is something wrong and they need to find out what it is.
Then again, if your son feels better at night time when you pick him up or you take him with you, without you doing anything for him, then you know that he wants your attention.
But be firm with the doctor, if your son is not sleeping well because he is in pain then something needs to be done.
Also, I've noticed that the same happens to my three children that the same thing happens, during the daytime they are not half as sick as they are at night time. I don't know why or how but it just happens.
So please call the doctor or just take him back if he doesn't get any better.
Blessings

Not really sure what to suggest other than what you are doing , but just wanted to add to the part where you say he is fine all day then at night he screams , this is probably because during the day he is drinking fluids therefore his urine his diluted , at night when he is in bed and urinates it is pure 100% urine so is stinging when he goes , maybe try and get him to drink more during the day to help with the night time peeing?

Is he circumcised? If he is, they are probably right, without the protection of the foreskin, lots of grime can get up in there. It will work itself out. If he's intact, maybe there's a little sand under the foreskin you could flush out with some water?

maybe you could take him to a pediatric urologist. i if his regular doc can't see the problem maybe the specialist can. good luck.
