What kind of Sippy cup should I buy for my 8 month old baby? I bought Luv N' Care Nuby Two Handle Sippy Cup and paid like $7 for one of them and the thing leaks ALL the time. I only put water in the cup because of the mess it makes. I want to be prepared for when she turns 1 to take her off the bottle and only do the sippy but need to buy like 4 or 5 of them. I dont want to buy 4 or 5 leaky cup. Can any of you moms give me advice on which kind/brands to buy? I dont mind paying more as long as they dont leak.
My problem with the Nubby cups was that my dd would chew on the spout, which caused it to leak. It was so frustrating! We switched to the Playtex cups.I can't remember the exact name. They have a valve and a hard plastic lid and spout. I never had any problem with them leaking. We had them for well over a year and only had problems in the last month. The valves just wore out. With the Nubby, make sure the lid is on correctly. If I remember right, it has to be on a certain way, or it leaks like crazy. It still amazes me how expensive sippy cups are! I don't even pay that much for MY cups and glasses! Good luck finding something! :)
I don't think you need to spend more money. We started off with the cups (probably gerber or playtex) that had the soft spouts but just like the other reply the kids would chew them. We switched to the hard spout and I have never had a problem with them leaking. Now that the kids are older they can shake them hard enough spill but I don't think it is a problem with the cups. Target or walmart carries them.
This Is hillarious because I was going to write in to a forum about sippy cups. I am also having the same troubles. I have Nubby cups as well for the price I got mine for 1.97 at walmart but honestly I would have paid more to not have the mess. These things leak all over the place and ruin all of my 1 year olds shirts. I did also believe I was putting the lids on wrong so I tried every possible way and now know I had it right. Don't get me wrong he did chew the suckers up too so that contributed to the problem.
Personally I like the ones from Gerber but they all have issues if they have a valve it pops out and hard for baby to get the liquids out.
I found after several types of sippy cups the hard plastic gerber ones that change color with the temperature pretty much never leak. I couple drops might drip out if left upside down and then shaken, but other than that nothing. I was surprised because they are on the lower end of the prices scale.
I liked the Nubby cups for the transition, they were like a cup with a nipple on the end...but then the kid chewed them. We are having the same problem with the sippy cups. He can bang them around and on some of our cups, the stopper will come loose. I have 2 cups that dont work with stoppers and I like them, but the other 10 I have to constantly worry about. He is 20 months and getting to the point he likes to drink out of a big boy glass (no lid) so I am hoping that soon we can junk these cups.
Playtex, with the valve that fits in the two holes in the lid. I'm on my second kid (he's 3) and I've tried them all, trust me on this one.
I agree, the Playtex are the best ones I have found, they do require a lot of suction to drink from. For the transition we used the Take N Toss sippies--they do leak but don't require as much work for baby to learn to drink from, so we just used them in the high chair or just with water. Now I let the Playtex sippies roam all over the house.
We use the platex brand for milk. They drink juice and water out of the take and toss sippy and straw cups. I've used the platex cups for years now, and they don't leak. When they do, just get a replacement valve. Hope this helps.
We liked the Nuby ones as well because they have a cap that fits over the top, but they leaked all the time. (Not to mention getting the top screwed on can be impossible with some cups.) We switched to the Munchkin ones and haven't looked back.

Playtex!! They are the only ones I found to not leak. They have a rubber valve system that has lasted us through two children.
I agree with everyone that said Playtex cups. They have ones that have the handles on it. My 6month old can drink out of it and she gets to hold onto it.
Just to repeat what several others have said - Platex with the hard lid and valve that goes into the 2 holes! They have them in smaller and larger sizes. They even have toddler cups with a different lid that still uses the same valve system.
Hi, Lisa! I know exactly what you mean about the Nuby brand cups! We have the same problem. Guess where they ended up??? I love the kind with the flip top and the straw, and also the Playtex brand that looks like a regular cup, but is spill proof. My daughter will be 2 in October, and she has completely mastered using a regular cup. I really think that using the sippy cups that don't have a "nipple" type of top has helped tremendously with that transition, and also to get her off of the bottle and breast. Good luck!!
There are ones at wal-mart that are called Advent and they have a sort of flat flexible tip on the cup and they have plugs to put in the bottom. they have some that also have tips with bottle nipples on them to start adjusting them from bottle to cup. We have never had a problem with the Gerber brand sippy cups leaking.

I think I bought every sippy cup out there to try... and the Advent ones work best. They don't leak. However, since we are on the go all the time, I started buying the disposable kind. They come in different colors, 4 to a pack. Can't remember the brand name. But they work awesome! When you use them for the first few times, they don't leak at all. The more you put them in the dishwasher or your child chews on the spout, they can start to leak. Then I just throw them away. They are disposable so they are relatively inexpensive. Not great for the environment to throw them away... but they sure are convenient. And if you lose one - who cares. I think the pack of 4 is like $2.60.
Hello. My son is 14 months old and I love the sippy cups I got for him. He's had them since he was around 6-7 months. Its made by Gerber and im pretty sure its called first cups and its just a classic sippy cup nothing special. It doesnt leak no matter how many times my son throws it! And its easy to clean. And 1 other thing ive found about some sippy cups the spill proof valve falls out inside the cup when they're thrown, this cup doesn't do that. So good luck and i hope this helps.
