My daughter, Marley, has had a severe diaper rash that will not go away. I change her frequently, use lots of Desitin, but it does not seem to get better. I recently introduced rice cereal with apples and thought maybe that was to blame, so I have stopped it to see, but in the meantime she is very uncomfortable. Does anyone have any remedies that have worked for them? Suggestions greatly appreciated.
Hi Amy,
If it's really bad, I'd take the baby to the doctor. I've read that severe rashes can be indicators of other problems.
For now though, try to keep baby clean and dry and let air get to her bottom. When my kids would start to get red, I'd let them run around without a diaper.
MY DR. RECOMMENDED BOUDREAUX'S BUTT PASTE. IT IS WONDERFUL. IT IS REALLY THINK AND I LIKE IT MUCH BETTER THAN DESTIN OR BALMEX OR ANY OF THE OTHER.. IT IS GREAT STUFF. I AGREE WITH THE OTHER ABOUT AIR AND BEING CLEAN AND DRY. BUT TRY THIS STUFF IT IS AWESOME. GOOD LUCK.
I use Boudreaux's Butt Paste it is wonderful. When I use it on my son the rash goes away really fast.
Stop using Desitin for a while and try "Budreax's Buttpaste". You can find it at Wal-mart. Also, if you give her juice, either dilute it 1/2 with water or just water only. Good luck
Amy...Sounds like a yeast infection...this is a type of diaper rash that will not go away...Ask your pharmacist if there is anything over the counter that you could use,if not call your pediatrician and he/she will know exactly what to prescribe. No amount of desitin or air drying without a med specific for yeast infection will help...Good luck, also if it were my baby I would give he/she a dose of tylenol to help with the pain..gina
My pediatrician also recommended liquid Maalox when my son had a severe case of diaper rash.
Good Luck!

I agree with the others about the Boudreaux's Butt Paste (it's the only diaper rash ointment I use). Also, if it won't go away with the Boudreaux's, try a little monastat with each diaper change. My son had the same problem and the monastat cleared it up within 3 changes.
She might be allergic to the diapers you are using! Have you tried a different brand to see if that's the case? Especially since you are using ointment and changing frequently and it is still there.
Try using pure cornstarch, not baby powder, but the cornstarch in the grocery aisle. Use it everytime you change the diaper, and after baths.
I agree with the other responses Boudreux's Butt Paste is great!
Another vote for Boudreaux's Butt Paste it is wonderful and creamy it does not hurt when applied even over a bad diaper rash.
I'd call the doctor. My son used to get bad rashes. They might be able to recommend or prescribe something over the phone based on your description (they ususally ask if it is bumpy or not).
Try using A & D ontment...this is the only product I will use. Make sure to really cover every part of you bottom, throughly. My grandmother started my with it and I have never been let down. I think it smells nice too. I hope this helps.
Resinol is the only thing that ever worked for us. My daughter is now 2 but still gets diaper rash and always had them really bad. You can get it at Walgreens but you have to get it from the pharmacist even though you do not have to have a prescription for it. Sometimes they have to order it but it only takes a day to come in usually. It is amazing stuff. It would clear her up in one day when nothing else would even make a slight difference.

Try bordex buttpaste you can find it at Walmart or the drug store and it comes in a tube with a cartoon baby on the front. It is the only thing that will take care of my daughters diaper rash and I have tried everything. If it doesnt go away take her to the doctor and ask them for pescrip merical cream, they will know what you are talking about. Hope it helps.
Walgreens made me a ointment one time at the pharmacy for my son when he was a baby because he got a rash really bad. It worked wonders and cleared up a great deal in less than 24 hours.
I love the Resinol! You can also get it from Wal-Mart's pharmacy (without a perscription). It sort of looks like silly putty but it works really well and fast.
HEY AMY IM NOT SURE IF YOU EVER TRIED VASOLINE BUT I USED IT BEFORE AND TO ME IT WORKS BETTER THAN THE CREAMS THEY HAVE THE CREAMS JUST RUB OFF OR WHEN THEY USE THE BATHROOM IT COMES OFF AND THEN YOU HAVE A BIG MESS. BUT WHEN MY BABY HAD BOWEL MOVEMENTS SHE HAD ACID COMING OUT TO AND THE VASOLINE WOULD PROTECT IT FROM SITTING ON HER SKIN KINDA LIKE WHEN YOU WOULD TAKE AND POUR WATER ON IT HOW IT JUS RUNS OFF WELL IT PREVENTS IT FROM HAVIN A RASH. IF THIS HELPS LET ME KNOW.
My son had a diaper rash that wouldn't go away that I attributed to the foods we had just started feeding him. We finally took him to the doctor and it was a yeast infection. When we were little, my mom would just use over the counter yeast infection ointment if we got yeast infections. My doctor gave us an antifungal ointment called nystatin. It does pretty much the same thing. But don't hesitate to call the doctor and ask them what to do.
